DH Lawrence described this property and main residence in the opening chapters of Kangaroo the novel he wrote whilst residing at another well known property in Thirroul.
'The town trailed down from the foot of this mountain towards the railway, a huddle of grey and red painted iron roofs, Then over the railway, towards the sea, it began again in a scattered, spasmodic fashion, rather forlorn bungalows and new 'stores' and fields with rail fences and more bungalows above the fields and more still running down to the creek shallows toward the hollow sea................'
The main residence at this property Glen Ayr was one of the original boarding houses of Thirroul and is well over 100 years old. The studio/garden flat was built in 2008 has been designed to compliment the main house.
Thirroul is rich in history and this property was one of the original boarding houses from the very early 1900's till the 1940's.
