Description

Welcome to Wombarra,

Wombarra is an Aboriginal word meaning black duck. It is a very significant area to aboriginal people, particularly women.

Wombarra is a beautiful coastal village, just minutes from the well known Sea Cliff Bridge

Look out onto the dramatic escarpment which falls into the ocean

The property backs onto a pocket of semi rainforest and faces north east with the ocean to the east and escarpment to the west. It is truly a unique and peaceful location.

The apartment is generous in size with high ceilings and huge windows facing north east for abundant light and sun in winter.

The bedrooms are spacious with generous storage space.

The kitchen has both a gas cook top and electric oven, perfect for cooking that special meal or just enjoy an aussie BBQ on the balcony overlooking the treetops to the sea.

There are two bathrooms.. the main featuring a spa and a view to the forest.

Wombarra beach and ocean pool is only a 5 minutes stroll and perhaps enjoy a cleaning ale at Wombarra Bowlo on the way back.

You can easily walk to the famous Sea Cliff Bridge which is only a few kilometres from the apartment

The main city of Wollongong is a 20 minute drive south.

The closest supermarket is a 5 minutes drive.

Trains and buses are easily accessible.

Where we are and what there is to enjoy

Welcome to Wombarra,

just one hour drive from the city centre of Sydney.

Alternatively, enjoy the train trip from the city with Wombarra Station just a 5 minute walk.

Buses also travel up and down the coast linking the coastal villages

Wombarra is a beautiful coastal village, just minutes from the well known Sea Cliff Bridge.

The Scarborough Hotel is just a short stroll away. Enjoy their breakfast and lunch menus whilst sitting by the cliff overlooking the ocean...you may even spot a humpback whale and her baby making their way up or down the coast.

The area rich in Aboriginal history. There are many walks from a saunter to an arduous trek through the National parks and reserves just minutes away.

We get our coffee in Coledale, within walking distance along the coastal path. There are also several good restaurants within easy walking distance, including the Black Duck café at Wombarra Bowlo, Cheddos Restaurant and Coledale Cafe.

Thirroul is about 8 minutes by car and provides all services as well as a wide selection of shops, great cafes and restaurants.

Our thoughts on what makes a great experience

We will provide you with the space to just enjoy the peace of the landscape and perhaps read a great book on the verandah overlooking the treetops to the ocean.

You can play cards with the family, cook a fabulous feast, explore the many shopping delights of the area. Hike the trails of the Royal National Park along the cliff tops.

Observe the flight of man and their gliders at Stanwell tops, perhaps dare to go two up with one of the training schools. Fall out of a plane at Wollongong

Catch a $10 movie at the Gala or venture to the Outdoor Summer Cinema near the Wollongong University.

Catch a train up the coast just the enjoy the majestic views as the train winds its way along the cliffs and through the tunnels. Observe some of the remains of a region once rich in mining. If you are lucky, you may be visiting when the steam train travels from Bowral down to the Illawarra coast.

Spend time with loved ones playing games, singing, dancing making up plays

or perhaps

you can just enjoy the true luxury of nothing

nothing but contemplation and gratitude for a beautiful experience with those you love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We loved it! We were "in town" for a family wedding. I was delighted to discover The Wombarra Bowlo was literally a stones throw away. We loved everything about our stay. Our hostess and her daughter could not have been more generous with their time and were so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. To awake on the morning of the wedding to see the sun rising over the sea from my bed will stay with my for a long time. I loved the fun collection of vintage pieces in the house, the views, the table, the verandah looking over The Bowlo to the ocean, the spa looking out on the rainforest. Parrots flew by and bunnies jumped about on the lawn. Everything was clean as a whistle, fresh bread, coffee and other essentials awaited us upon arrival. We loved it so much we had to say an extra night. Thank you so very much Julia and Kate. We love you Wombarra!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, comfortable and convenient! This apartment was very clean when we arrived and proved to be a very comfortable and very well located stay. We were a nice short walk away from the beach and ocean pool and an even shorter walk from the local 'Bowlo' which in itself proved to be a very nice restaurant! The only thing I would like to see improved is the kitchen area. There was hardly any bench space and the 'table' near the fridge did not fill that void. But these were little things for our short stay - possibly more annoying for a longer stay. Hence I marked down the quality to four stars. However, we would stay here again :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relaxing cottage with great deck The Shack is a comfortable little house with a nice atmosphere. The huge deck with a view to the ocean was the highlight, a great place for breakfast, lunch, drinks and dinner! The house is well equipped with every need catered for. There is so much to do in the area; the beach is a couple of minutes walk, there are great walks in the nearby Royal National Park, Scarborough Hotel is a wonderful spot for lunch; Wollongong is an easy 20 minute drive. We were met at The Shack by Deanne, who was very friendly and helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels Like Home Arriving straight from the office on a Friday evening, we were pleasantly greeted by our host Julia. The accommodation is simple and spacious with some lovely eclectic touches of earlier-era furniture and crockery. We felt relaxed and at home as soon as we stepped through the door. Waking in the morning to the beautiful sounds of the bush and the morning sun that floods the bedrooms and living area was only bettered by falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean just across the way in the evening. Saturday we had an early start as we planned to tackle the Coast Track from Otford to Bundeena so we were up and out early. There was nothing better than arriving home in the afternoon, stoking up the log fire and starting on the cheese and biscuits. We girls hopped into the spa bath to recover from our aches and pains while Pete walked the one minute to the bowling club to catch the football and chat with the locals (good food here too). Overall we very much enjoyed our short stay. We found our hosts very friendly and welcoming but in no way intrusive. The apartment felt like our own holiday house, down to earth, comfortable and a place for relaxing in. The only negative was that we didn't spend enough time there just hanging about, so looks like we will just need to return. Recommended.
