Perched on a granite outcrop with lovely views over the tablelands, Tor Cottage is the perfect cosy hideaway for couples and small families wanting a unique and bush retreat.
Award winning Tor Cottage has been a favourite on the New England since opening in 2009. Loved for its unique location, stylish handmade timber interior, fabulous views and extensive bush-walking and mountain bicycle tracks through amazing boulder forests.
Tor Cottage is studio style with a blended lounge/bedroom with wood-fire, a separate bathroom with shower, toilet and basin, and a light-filled kitchen opening onto the spacious private deck that spreads out to the boulders.
Almost all the furniture in Tor is handmade from wind-fall timber - yellow-box, red stringybark and cyprus pine that was milled and crafted onsite.
Easy to get to but hard to leave...
There's something about the way Tor Cottage is nestled by the boulders one side, and open to big views on the other that give it such a sense of peace, privacy, seclusion and security. You can do, say or be anything you like and there is no-one to see or hear you.
Features of Tor Cottage that will make you want to move in include...
The reading / snoozing / star-gazing nook. Cosy up amongst the plump cushions and snooze in the sun or star-gaze at night from this double-sized raised corner window retreat by the fire.
The writing, working, art corner. Perfect for writing, sketching, working or playing. With a light, desk, power points and great view.
The kitchen space with big windows, handmade timber furniture, full-size appliances and all the manual equipment you'll need to whip up culinary delights.
Tor Cottage is up the valley from the main house and across the valley and around the corner from Whaleback Cottage, our other 2-4 person accommodation venue at Anketell Forest.
Only six minutes off the New England Hwy near Bolivia Hill between Tenterfield and Deepwater. Easy 2wd access along all-weather dirt road.
The best pet friendly cottage on the New England Tablelands.
With 2000ac and over 30km of walking tracks maps provided Anketell Forest is a wonderful place to bring your four-legged friends for companionship and walks through the forest and boulders.
We do not have a fenced area but we do allow well-behaved dogs inside with you but not on the furniture. Please let us know if bringing canine friends and pack their feed bowls and bedding. There is a vacuum cleaner provided to clean up any stray dogs hairs inside.
We ask that dogs be kept on a leash when walking on the property for the safety of both dogs and wildlife.
Managed as a wildlife refuge Anketell Forest is an integral part of the vital Deepwater/Bolivia Hill bio-region and wildlife corridor linking the north eastern coastal ranges with the western slopes. Its rugged and beautiful hills are home to a multitude of rare species including many listed as vulnerable or endangered.
