The Little House is 20 minutes inland from idyllic Brunswick Heads, 35 minutes from the beaches of Byron Bay, only 30 minutes from the lovely townships of Mullumbimby and Murwillumbah, and only 15 minutes from North Byron Parklands home of Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival.

The cabin is a unique space, right next to a tinkling creek, in lush and beautiful rainforest surroundings. There is no phone, no mobile reception, and no internet. The Little House is a true retreat from the online world. If you need a digital detox, this is the place for you

Though only one room, it sleeps five, with two queen-size bunks that drop from the ceiling, and one king-single on ground level.

Burringbar itself is a quiet, sleepy town, but it does have it's own butcher, general store, mechanic, laundromat, hairdresser and pharmacy

Other Things to Note

There is no vehicle access directly to the cabin. You must park at the main house and walk about 200m down to the Little House through lush gardens. If you require help with your luggage, this can be arranged.

Also, please remember this is a true bush-getaway, with only an outdoor hot water shower and an outdoor composting toilet.

The cabin is situated in quite a forested area, so it is likely you'll experience some native wildlife. Possums, echidnas, and other smaller marsupials are often sighted in the surrounding bushland. There will also be some insect life, though we do our best to keep the cabin clear

Another thing to keep in mind is that the region of Northern NSW often experiences quite a wet, sometimes stormy summer. Obviously, this is variable, but it is definitely worth checking the weather forecast before you arrive, so you can come prepared.

There is no public transport here. Own car, or hire car, is essential.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing rainforest getaway This Little House is everything that you need to have a relaxing time. It is clean, comfortable and set in pristine rainforest. It provided me with space to relax with clarity and peace. With all of its homely comforts I truly had some quality time out, something that is not always easy to access living in my regular fast paced urban life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Retreat from the Outside World The Little House has got to be the perfect antidote to the pace of twenty first century living. I had booked five nights for a writing retreat. I needed a place removed from all the distractions that have become so necessary to living these days - phone, email, tv etc. The Little House, tucked into pristine forest, delivered in spades. To tell the truth I didn’t do any writing for the first few days – all I wanted to do was go for walks, read, take naps, do a bit of yoga. The environs of this lovely cabin welcomed that kind of slowing down and tuning in to what a tired, overworked body needs most of all – a forest space of simplicity and uninterrupted peace and quiet. Being winter the gorgeous little creek, babbling away metres from the deck, was a tiny bit too cold for a swim (there’s quite a deep pool in it) but it was a joy to just sit and listen to, or take a wander along its banks. There was firewood and kindling aplenty for the cutest little pot belly inside that kept the cabin warm as toast in the evenings. The kitchen was well equipped with pots and pans etc and on the occasion that I ran out of something the drive to the nearest store in Burringbar was less than ten minutes. Upper Burringbar is off the beaten track, but at the same time easily found and accessible – you do need a car though. The Tweed Gallery in Murwillumbah, a twenty minute drive, has got to be the most stunningly located gallery in the world. Seriously. Worth a visit just to see the painter, Margaret Olley’s reconstructed rooms. After a visit there on day three, I felt rested, nourished and inspired to then settle down at the table and do the writing I had come to do. Finding a place to retreat to that does not have the interference of wi-fi and mobile reception is not so easy these days and more and more people are beginning to recognize the value of such spaces. ‘De-toxing’ from the constant bombardment of information technology was not my prime motivation for staying at The Little House – I didn’t actually know that I needed it. But what a wonderful experience it was. Loved the piping hot shower under the treetops and the compost loo with a view and the friendly kookaburra that came every morning to sit on a branch overhanging the deck and say hullo. I could hear possums having a party one night somewhere in the forest, but never got to see them. And last but not least, Jan and her daughter Jessie were such gracious hosts, respectful of your privacy but there if you needed a chat. A highly recommended true getaway for singles and couples.
