Heavenly and healing, The 'Hyggelig' Hut offers all of the style and sophistication of an inner city artist residence infused with the essential elements of a typical rustic mountain hut. A perfect retreat for art lovers and honeymooners, the Hut is situated on an often snow covered five acres of Snowy Mountains high country. At nearly 1300metres the architect designed house has unrivalled views which encompass the main range of the Snowy Mountains and look directly at Mt Perisher of Perisher Snow Resort. The house contains many truly innovative features and offers a snug and cosy retreat of an evening for guests if they have participated in any of the nearby outdoor activities like snow sports, horse riding, sailing, fishing or kayaking that are on offer in the region. Large double glazed windows and sliding doors allow sunshine to suffuse the living areas creating cosy nooks for the less athletic to curl up with a good book and relax. The house features all of the modern conveniences available, from high speed broadband to the newest industry standard kitchen appliances including a dishwasher, bi-energy stove, microwave, coffee machine, underfloor heating, a washing machine and dryer. With an interior wood fuelled stove and a unique fire pit adjacent to a claw foot bath the rustic mixes with the industrial in an eclectic fashion. Wildlife, including wallabies, wombats and echidnas can often be spied in the early morning. The property has resident horses who love being fed carrots. The 'Hyggelig' Hut is a mere 45 minutes to the snowfields, five minutes to mountain horse riding, a half hour to some of the most beautiful and remote sections of the Snowy River and it is a true mountain experience rather than just holiday accommodation.
The 'Hyggelig' Hut is the creation of international photojournalist Lisa Hogben and architect John Bohane. An ode to Hogben's journalist father, Brian, Lisa promised him on his death bed that she would build a mountain hut in the memory of her father and his passion for ski-ing. A level 4 certified ski instructor, Lisa shared many happy days carving up the powder with her Dad.
The Hut also features large photographic prints by Lisa Hogben which will vary from time to time that can be purchased by guests.
Pets are allowed for an additional nightly tariff. Dogs can be accommodated for an extra $20.00 per night EACH, horses can be accommodated for an extra $30.00 per night EACH.
PLEASE NOTE A caretaker visits the property twice daily so horses can be hard fed on request. The property is in a working rural setting, so as with all country dwellings it has its own particular character and somethings may vary during different seasons.
