Tantallon was the historic seat of the Douglas's in the Scottish Highlands. You will feel some of that highland spirit when you stay at Tantallon in Berry and gaze out at the escarpment across the gentle slopes of Bundewallah valley. Its only a five-minute drive from the Berry township and 15 minutes from the spectacular Seven Mile Beach.
So come stay and relax in one of the greenest places in Australia. Sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching the many species of birds as they sail on the valley thermals. Take in the peaceful quietness of the countryside and watch the colours of the sky change as evening falls. If its hot, cool off in the salt-water pool. Bring your swimmers and beach towels.
Tantallon, set on seven acres of sloping pastureland, is luxurious self-contained accommodation attached to the main homestead. It has its own private entrance into a spacious living and dining area with a modern fully equipped kitchen. The bedroom with a queen size bed, has a luxury en-suite, a bath for two and separate walk-in shower. Off the living area are two additional bedrooms, each with queen beds, and a second bathroom.
For those who wish to explore the area, bring your hiking boots or use the two bicycles that are available. There are established walking tracks but it all depends on how energetic you are. If you prefer to stay indoors, there is digital television, Foxtel including the sports channels, a DVD player with an extensive collection of DVDs and docking for an ipod or MP3 player.
There are also excellent restaurants, wineries and coffee shops within a five minute drive.
For those with pets (dogs or cats) we recommend Petcharm Lodge which is only five minutes from Tantallon. Your pet will be pampered during your stay (and their's) and you are able to visit them regularly if desired. For more details "google" 'petcharmlodge'.
There is a separate massage room and an in-house therapist is available by appointment. To pre-book your massage, include a request in your booking enquiry.
If you just want to relax, this is the place.
What Guests Have Written
We were very fortunate to win a two night stay in peaceful Bundewallah, an emerald, hidden in a beautiful valley near the historic town of Berry. When you arrive at "Tantallon", you are likely to be met, firstly by friendly Molly, a loveable chocolate-coloured Labrador, quickly followed by Geoff and Penny, the owners, who have developed this delightful hideaway over the past 4 years. The luxury self-contained apartment rests on the western side of a fertile valley, peppered with gums and native bush. Cattle graze on the lower slopes, beside vineyards that supply award winning wines to the Australian market. A solitary no-through road meanders through the valley floor ensuring traffic is mostly confined to the small number of local residents who reside in Bundewallah. A variety of relaxing and challenging walks through the lush countryside may cause you to stumble upon a friendly wombat, kangaroo or lyrebird. If it's hot, cool off in the sparkling salt water pool or take a leisurely 15 minutes drive to magnificent Seven Mile Beach. 5 minute drive and you are in the heart of Berry confronted with a wonderful selection of country cooking from quiet cafes and restaurants.
Two resident horses and a friendly Shetland pony appeared to enjoy our company at feeding time. Sipping our complimentary bubbly at the end of a relaxing day whilst we watched colours change on the escarpment, enjoying the sounds of the feathered bush orchestra, will stay with us for a long time.
