Things to Do
Callala Beach is a sheltered oasis located in Jervis Bay. Famous for white-sand beaches and clear turquoise waters it is amongst the safest and most beautiful in the world. Jervis Bay is reputed to have the clearest waters and the whitest sands not only in this country but in the world. Its breathtaking beauty, rich cultural and natural significance have long been recognised and appreciated by locals and by domestice and overseas visitors.
These beautiful blue waters are home to many dolphins and the opportunity to sight these graceful locals is one of the major features that make this area a magnet for lovers of nature. Jervis Bay is also known for whale watching, placed such that the migration, both north and south, can be observed as they pass the entrance to the bay, frequently entering the bay to rest. The majority of whales sighted are the Humpback whales, which migrate along the east coast from June to November, however other species on occasions such as Southern Right Whales, False Killer Whales, Orcas, Minke Whales and on one occasion the Blue Whale are seen.
The choice of water sports is wide and many people come to scuba dive, snorkel, fish and explore these famous waters. The many bay and ocean beaches, lagoons, secret coves and hidden creeks are perfect for swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing and surfing.
Coastal, marine and hinterland National Parks offer fantastic bushwalking, cycling tracks, indigenous culture, camping spots, cliff-top lookouts and maritime heritage. See kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wombats and many rare bird and animal species in the wild.
Unspooiled coastal and country villages have local produce markets, boutique shops, art galleries and a terrific musuem. The area boasts world-class cafes, restaurants, pubs & wine bars.
Callala Beach is itself perfect for those who like the calmer waters of Jervis Bay. Although if you also like a bit of surfing a number of surf beaches are only a 15 minute drive away.
The beach is pet friendly and dogs are allowed on a leash during the day (off the leash in the mornings and late afternoons and night).
Nearby you will find Huskinson, Culburra Beach and Vincentia.
Callala Beach has an 18 Hole Golf Course, Tennis Courts and Lawn Bowling Greens.
