Currarong-An Oasis on the Beecroft Peninsula
Currarong is a small fishing village divided by a tidal creek and surrounded by pristine waters, long sandy beaches, sheltered coves and inlets. A sleepy little place for most of the year, Currarong becomes a vibrant holiday hub during summer and Easter breaks. Only 30 minutes drive from Nowra, there is just one road into Currarong. Warrain Beach, a long surf beach just 8 minutes walk from La Casa Azul, with a north facing aspect offers great opportunities for surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding. You can snorkel the small rocky headlands protruding from the beach and even snorkel the wreck of the Plutus close to the shore. Dolphins frequent this area, cruising and feeding close in, and Humpback Whales bring their calves nearer to shore on their Southern migration.
Abraham Bosom Beach is a sheltered beach perfect for young children and great for snorkelling too. 15 minutes walk down the track will take you to the unspoiled oasis of Honeysuckle Point or Lobster Rock. Both sheltered beaches are great for snorkelling, fishing and, during quiet times, provide you with your own perfect little hideaway.
Cycle, jog or take a leisurely stroll through the bush tracks to the impressive cliffs, rock formations and fantastic views at Gosangs Tunnel, Mermaid’s Inlet or the Beecroft Headland. Great vantage points to see the Humpback Whales as they migrate North and South. Other whale species can also been seen from these vantage points.
There are 2 playgrounds for young children, the one at Dolphin Point across from the shop and affording fantastic views of Warrain Beach and looking as far out as Culburra.
There is excellent fishing from the beaches and rocks surrounding Currarong and several ramps to launch a boat. Great spots for scuba diving as well.
Zac’s café/restaurant offers great seafood, caught fresh on the day. Zac’s also provide take away meals, a general store and bottle shop. Evening bookings are recommended during peak holiday times. The local Bowling Club serves Chinese and Australian food as an alternative.
Tennis courts are available for hire, and the Progress Hall has Bingo 2 or 3 nights a week during peak holiday times. The local craft shop is open a few days a week for an opportunity to browse.
Gorgeous sunsets and fantastic views, birds and wildlife make this a spectacular place for photography.
