8 Depot Beach is the perfect escape for couples or families seeking a retreat back into nature. On the South Coast of NSW, Depot Beach is not just a beach, but a sheltered bay of white sands, pristine waters and natural rock platforms nestled within the Murramarang National Park.
Just a leisurely three and a half hour drive from Sydney, the top floor of this south coast holiday house comfortably sleeps four (and the whole house sleeps nine). The Artist Within is nourished by gazing through idyllic bushland across Depot Beach through to Pebbly Beach, and the wild beyond.
Situated on the lands of Yuin people, with just one road in - Depot Beach is a hidden retreat; its less often used but more befitting name is Tranquility Bay.
Depot Beach is the way beachside villages used to be: 40 houses, ice and wood at the camping ground, a shop a couple of kilometres away, the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Swim in crystal waters or relax on the sand
Hike or bike in picturesque National Park
Unwind on the balcony with idyllic views
Entertain friends and family with comfortable facilities
Watch the wildlife in your own front yard
Upstairs is the centre of living at 8 Depot Beach: great kitchen, two eating areas, spacious living and a wood combustion stove.
The wrap-around balcony is protected by a beautiful sail and is best enjoyed on the sun-lounges. People with a ken for camping, albeit a little past the hassles, love The Sail. Not to forget the BBQ.
Inside, opening out the bi-fold doors from the king master room gives the "best actual view from bed" imaginable. The en-suite includes a generous bathtub.
Bunks in a separate bedroom are adult-sized. When the cedar blinds are open, they give the "second best actual view from bed" ("Best in Bunk" category!)
We supply all blankets and king-size sheets. We provide, if required, bunk sheets and towels.
Mozzies are blocked by screens on all windows and doors.
The range of DVDs, puzzles and books waxes and wanes with visitors who have made this their home; for however short a time. Free Wi Fi, free phone (except international, and the Smart TV (functional for USBs, DVDs, and videos) are all included.
If the wind is up on our beach, it can be lovely around at North Durras Beach; and vice versa. People love to fish but spots are, of course, secret!
The water tastes great and comes fresh from the two tanks. Firewood for the combustion stove is in the garage.
Sheets are provided for the king-size beds and, if required, for bunks. Towels can be arranged too. There is a plethora of cutlery, pots, and pans, and basics like olive oil, balsamic, tomato sauce, herbs, and flour. Machines include those for washing dishes, washing clothes (detergents are supplied), drying clothes, drying hair, and ironing (that last one is seldom used!).
If you require space for two families, the whole house is available. Rates on stayz are for the upstairs section only - except for the period from 19/12/2015 through to 29/01/2016 during which the only bookings accepted are for the whole house (sleeps 9). Downstairs includes a king-size bed in one room, with eating and living area, and a tri-bunk in the other room. A granite kitchenette includes a microwave, another washing machine and a fridge. The downstairs bathroom (step-in shower and toilet) is accessible to both rooms.
We don't rent out downstairs to other parties if upstairs is booked.
You’ll be kept company by king parrots, rosellas, wattlebirds, and those other larrikins - kookaburras. Leave the gates open and the Australian myth about kangaroos in the front yard becomes fair dinkum when Victa the lawn-moving kangaroo bounces on in, with or without his family.
Cars are protected behind a huge rolla-door garage. The outside laundry - washing machine, drier, hot water system - was built to last through to the next century. The yard is fenced.
The keys are made available on-site, so no trips to Batemans Bay are involved.
