Description

Built in the late 1800's from bricks made of the clay bed on which she stands, Auntie Eileen's is a simple but elegant old-style farmhouse. Set on an acre and a half, she is surrounded by an ever evolving Australian cottage garden and has a gentle farmyard atmosphere complete with resident farm animals. Situated on the eastern side of the valley floor, Auntie Eileen's is an easy 15 minute stroll from the restaurants, cafes and shops of Kangaroo Valley village.

Auntie Eileen's is built on sandstone piers and has double brick walls, which help keep her cool in summer and cosy in winter. The north-facing lacework verandah has clear views to the Upper River escarpment and wraps around the house to the shade of the old plum, quince and pear orchard and beyond to the native plant hedge. It is here you can dine out, have a good belly laugh at the antics of the waddling duck quintet or just relax to the sight and sound of the local Australian native birds.

In the paddock live Olivia the pig and her buddies P1 and P2 ; grazing, having a nap or keeping cool in their mud bath. In a separate paddock you will find the goats Pip, Boots and Ursula along with Maggie and Mary the sheep. You can also take your pick from our small covered veggie patch or collect eggs from the near by chook house.

Inside, the house itself, is decorated in a funky eclectic mix of approachable antiques and collectables to create an old world romance which changes tempo from room to room.

Relaxed Comfort for Families or Couples

There are three bedrooms which can comfortably sleep a family of six or up to five adults. The front bedroom has a queen-size bed and a fresh French Provincial feel. The second bedroom has a wood frame country double bed and offers a sense of cosiness. The third bedroom has a set of bunk beds and leads to a small adjoining playroom which is great for the kids but could also be used as a hideaway nook to do the crossword. All rooms have views to the garden.

The cosy lounge room has a slow combustion wood fire. Here, you can snuggle up with a good book, play board games, or watch a DVD, all of which are available from the book shelf. Bake to your heart's content or whip up a fantastic meal together in the country style kitchen and serve it in the warm glow of the separate dining room or in the bright breakfast room away from the preparation mess.

And when it's time, relax in Auntie's big claw-foot bath.

Auntie Eileen's is about the simplicity of country living. The comfy house in which to relax, the fun of watching farm animals, the joy of being with family and friends. It's arriving to a basket of freshly picked produce, flowers and eggs when available and delighting in a freshly baked cake for morning tea.

Like anyone of her grand age, Auntie Eileen's is a little quirky with a character all her own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous, relaxing stay We had an amazing stay at Auntie Eileen's and couldn't have asked for more. On arrival, we found a mountain of fresh produce that lasted us the duration of our stay, the pantry was equipped with everything we needed to make basic meals and all we really bought was bread. The sponge cake was delicious and didn't last long!! Our two year old was in heaven in the toy room, and my mum was in heaven amongst the books. We played scrabble each night and fed the animals each morning. It was such a lovely stay, giving us chance to really switch off and even with a six-week old, we found it extremely relaxing. We will definitely return - thank you so much Helen and John! If you're heading over, take your swimmers as there's a public pool close by which was very welcome in the 32 degree heat, although the house was lovely and cool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Kids and Adults We had a great time for our short stay. The kids loved the animals and the amazing toy room. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything you need to relax. Cooking, books, games, comfy couch and a beautiful veranda. The owners were lovely, John taking us around to feed the animals and Helen delivering us a delicious sponge cake. We'd love to come back again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect in every way! We had an absolutely fantastic time at Auntie Eileen's, everything was great. The welcome basket was so good, a lovely cake the next morning and the house was just perfect. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice but disappointing in some areas We were generally happy with our stay at Aunty Eileen's. Farmer John did a great job showing the kids around the animals each morning and the area itself is stunning. However, we do have a few negatives. The house is positioned next to a busy main road & while it's perfectly safe for young children to roam free there was a significant amount of road noise throughout the night making sleeping difficult. The bathroom and toilet facilities were very disappointing considering the rate per night and we were disappointed to find that a portion of our bond would not be returned due to an issue that we felt was not due to any fault on our part. All the best Tim

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal country homely retreat! This place is wonderful! So homely and clean and comfortable it wasn't like a holiday rental but more like your own country retreat. Helen and John are such lovely hosts, and they think of everything. Fresh produce from the garden and eggs from the chickens and ducks. So close to town. So many lovely little touches like home made sponge on arrival and tastes amazing! The kitchen has everything you need and if you have kids the toy room has everything as well, we didn't need to bring our sons toys. We stayed a whole week over Xmas and had everything we could ever need available during our stay. There is literally nothing here I could fault! We didn't want to leave, hopefully we can return someday.
