Built in the late 1800's from bricks made of the clay bed on which she stands, Auntie Eileen's is a simple but elegant old-style farmhouse. Set on an acre and a half, she is surrounded by an ever evolving Australian cottage garden and has a gentle farmyard atmosphere complete with resident farm animals. Situated on the eastern side of the valley floor, Auntie Eileen's is an easy 15 minute stroll from the restaurants, cafes and shops of Kangaroo Valley village.
Auntie Eileen's is built on sandstone piers and has double brick walls, which help keep her cool in summer and cosy in winter. The north-facing lacework verandah has clear views to the Upper River escarpment and wraps around the house to the shade of the old plum, quince and pear orchard and beyond to the native plant hedge. It is here you can dine out, have a good belly laugh at the antics of the waddling duck quintet or just relax to the sight and sound of the local Australian native birds.
In the paddock live Olivia the pig and her buddies P1 and P2 ; grazing, having a nap or keeping cool in their mud bath. In a separate paddock you will find the goats Pip, Boots and Ursula along with Maggie and Mary the sheep. You can also take your pick from our small covered veggie patch or collect eggs from the near by chook house.
Inside, the house itself, is decorated in a funky eclectic mix of approachable antiques and collectables to create an old world romance which changes tempo from room to room.
Relaxed Comfort for Families or Couples
There are three bedrooms which can comfortably sleep a family of six or up to five adults. The front bedroom has a queen-size bed and a fresh French Provincial feel. The second bedroom has a wood frame country double bed and offers a sense of cosiness. The third bedroom has a set of bunk beds and leads to a small adjoining playroom which is great for the kids but could also be used as a hideaway nook to do the crossword. All rooms have views to the garden.
The cosy lounge room has a slow combustion wood fire. Here, you can snuggle up with a good book, play board games, or watch a DVD, all of which are available from the book shelf. Bake to your heart's content or whip up a fantastic meal together in the country style kitchen and serve it in the warm glow of the separate dining room or in the bright breakfast room away from the preparation mess.
And when it's time, relax in Auntie's big claw-foot bath.
Auntie Eileen's is about the simplicity of country living. The comfy house in which to relax, the fun of watching farm animals, the joy of being with family and friends. It's arriving to a basket of freshly picked produce, flowers and eggs (when available) and delighting in a freshly baked cake for morning tea.
Like anyone of her grand age, Auntie Eileen's is a little quirky with a character all her own.
