It is one of very few houses that have been allowed to be built on the edge of the lake, and is surrounded by National Parks. The scent of eucalyptus oil in the air when you get out of the car on arrival, is always special.
Architecturally designed, and elegantly simple, it sits among the gum trees, floating above ground level, surrounded by elevated timber decks which seamlessly connect with the indoor timber floors, giving a wonderful free open feeling of indoor and outdoor flow. The elevated decks provide wonderful views along the length of the house to the lake - an ever changing picture of early morning rising mist, mirror calmness in moonlight, or white caps in a storm.
Big opening bi-fold glass doors to the decks either side of the dining room, and banks of glass louvres everywhere, are the reason the Glasshouse has its name
If you want to lie in bed and look at the stars through a glass ceiling, this place is for you
The house is comfortable and easy for between 2 and 8 adults. There are 4 bedrooms, three with queen size beds, and one with a double. Two of the bedrooms have ensuites, the main one with a bath where you can lie and look at the lake. The second and third bedrooms share a third bathroom.
The kitchen, with expansive views over the lake, and big windows which can open completely onto the covered entertaining deck, is well equipped with 5 burner gas stove, electric oven and warming oven, dish drawer, microwave, toaster, and Nespresso machine coffee capsules in fridge - along with raw sugar. Tea, local olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt, and pepper are provided.
The covered entertaining deck overlooking the lake through the trees, has an outdoor table that can easily seat 16 people, and a portable gas barbecue. The hammock and day bed, also overlooking the lake, are great spots for an afternoon siesta.
The free flowing dining/living area has a glass end wall to look out into the open grass parklands, where kangaroos and wombats can be spotted in early morning and evening. A large open fireplace frames the view. Two big comfortable leather lounges, TV, DVD player, CD player and various games and books, make this a wonderful spot to chill out, winter or summer. An upright piano overlooking the lake, is there for those who might like to play.
While there is usually a lovely breeze, and good cross ventilation, ceiling fans in summer provide a gentle breeze on still days. Underfloor heating in the living areas of the house, take the edge off the early morning cold in winter.
The laundry has a washing machine, and dryer; the hills hoist clothesline overlooking the lake makes hanging out the washing a joy.
To enjoy the water up close you have your own private pontoon hidden amongst the trees on the lake edge for fishing or for swimming from. NO DIVING PLEASE AS LAKE IS TOO SHALLOW HERE.
Quoits, a croquet set, and badminton set are there for those with the energy to be active in this tranquil place.
Otherwise just enjoy this unique and peaceful setting in a magic piece of paradise.
