At Bakers Flat Cottages The Little Cottage is a mud brick pioneer cottage in true early settler style. Just two hours drive from Canberra and four hours from Sydney, it makes for a great escape.
Private and secluded
Nestled amongst the trees and only a short stroll to the river, the Little Cottage is a bit like glam camping. So if you're a camper/bushwalker who's finding it a bit hard to get in and out of the tent these days, then this is the cottage for you. The ultimate escape for couples who need some time out together to escape city noise and a busy life.
The Cottage is essentially a welcoming bedsit, with solar lights, gas hot water, ensuite bathroom, well equipped kitchen, wood stove for cooking and heating, dining table, lounge chairs and double bed. There's also gas cooking for when you don't want to crank up the stove or just want to boil the billly. There's no fridge but an excellent cooler box keeps your food cold for days with some ice. Just outside your door is a flagstone verandah and patio with BBQ for cooking and just relaxing around the open fire. Also a generous sized outdoor dining table and chairs, and recliner chairs to laze in with a good book.
Bounded on all sides by the Deua National Park, wildlife is abundant throughout the property. A local mob of kangaroos visit daily to graze on your native grass lawn. Wombats, goannas and other small mammals are also regular visitors. The birdlife is abundant and varied, and sounds just magic to wake to each morning. Your water supply is fresh rainwater, and you'll have trouble going back to town water once you taste how sweet and pure it is.
The Deua River
Take a short stroll down the path from your cottage to the Deua Rver where you can laze in complete privacy in the shade of the Casuarina trees, and swim in the pristine river waters. The river is so clean that locals still use it for their drinking water
Things to do
There's lots to do in the area, but most people find that once they get to the cottages, they just don't want to leave. The beach at Moruya is a relaxing 45 minute drive away. Moruya is good for shopping with boutique and gourmet stores as well as supermarkets etc. It also has Tuesday Farmers Markets and Saturday Markets. South of Moruya is the historic village of Central Tilba. North is Batemans Bay and wonderful Mogo Zoo. Travel west to see the grand buildings in the historic town of Braidwood. It's an hours drive away and has shopping, great food and history tours. Alternately, take a drive and bushwalk to Marble Arch and the Big Hole or to Monga National Park to walk amongst the Gondwana remnant forest. However once people arrive, they tend not to leave, as the pure relaxation value of being at the cottage is hard to beat.
If you have a child or friend who doesn't mind sleeping on the fold out bed then we can accommodate them in the Little Cottage too.
If you'd like to share the property with more friends or family then rent the Big House a at Bakers Flat Cottages too. The Big House sleeps up to six comfortably, and each house has separate private grounds and separate access to the river. A 100m bush pathway joins the two houses, so you can have your privacy in the Little Cottage and join others in the Big House when you please. Although the houses are on the same property, they are private from each other, both visibly and audibly. You can see the Big House here:
