Surf Beach is patrolled throughout January. The drive from Canberra is approx. 2 hours. The drive from Sydney is approx. 3.5 hours.
The South Coast of NSW pristine waters are renown for frequent whale and dolphin sightings.
Go fishing in the many lakes and rivers or off one of the numerous beaches. Hire a boat or kayak or take a river cruise.
Visit Mogo Zoo or the Goldrush Colony in Mogo. Sample wonderful local produce and buy arts and crafts at the weekend markets or weekly Farmers market.
Bush walk or discover beaches such as Pebbly, South Durras or Depot which are home to many kangaroos.
Learn surfing at Broulee beach or swim in the lagoon there.
There are public pools operating during summer at Batemans Bay McKay Park and Moruya. Narooma's Olympic size pool operates year round.
Short coastal walks near by are the headland at Wimbie Beach, Lillipilli headland, Mosquito Bay to Pretty beach, Tranquil Bay, Rosedale to Guerilla Bay, Guerrilla Bay headland, Broulee foreshore also for biking. There is a bike/walk track from Corrigans Beach to Batemans Bay.
Further South try the Coastal walk from Congo, Bingie or Meringo Beaches South of Moruya or the lakeside walk at Tuross Heads. A 1.5 hour drive away there is the Historic town of Tilba Tilba on the way see the crafty town Bodalla with it's famous bakery, original old country pub, old stone church, Cheese shop and Postmasters Gallery or go a little further to the Deep sea Fishing Harbour Bermagui and follow the Bermagui - Tathra Road to Mimosa Winery or the world class Art Galleries Ivy Hill and Narek.
Go to the movies in Batemans Bay or try Mini Golf, Indoor Go Karting, Indoor Climbing, shopping or discover the array of cafes and restaurants there.
Moruya Airport is 20 mins away and flights go to Sydney and Merimbula. Skydiving is available there and a seaplane leaves from the Moruya River wharf for scenic flights on Saturday mornings.The Moruya markets are on Saturday mornings, Corrigans Beach markets are on Sunday mornings and the 'best Farmer's market' in NSW according to Delicious magazine is at Moruya on Tuesdays at 3pm.
Batemans Bay 10 minutes drive away has a wide selection of cafes and restaurants, national chain stores including Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, Kmart and a movie theatre. Local Surf beach shops 7 mins walk have a pharmacy, IGA, Liquor store, cafe/pizzeria and hairdresser.
Public bus service to Batemans Bay or Moruya leaves from Surf Beach shops. Bus service from Sydney or Canberra arrives to Batemans Bay. Airport at Moruya 20 mins drive has service to Sydney or Merimbula.
Local clubs such as Catalina Golf Club and Soldiers Club at Batemans Bay have free shuttle services as do Malua Bay Bowling Club and Tomakin Sport and Recreation club.
