Built in 1960 the Break-Away Beach House is the perfect holiday destination for any family. Owned by the same family for over 50 years the house has been their exclusive holiday destination for 5 generations. It's now your chance to see why they came from all over Australia and the rest of the world just to stay here and never wanted to leave.

The Break-Away Beach House is a classic 1960's beach house over two levels with a few more recent modifications to bring it up date. It was designed to accommodate two or three generations of the same family at the same time so it has 3 separate sleeping compounds for its 5 bedrooms and two separate living spaces. A family can be together under the one roof but not be under each others feet.

The accommodation on the first floor includes two separate bedrooms; the master with a queen bed and incredible views of the beach, surf and distant headlands and the second smaller bedroom, a double bed. There is a full modern bathroom no bath plus a modern kitchen, with dishwasher, microwave and double wall oven living/ dining room and enclosed verandah. The views from the living room and enclosed verandah are spectacular. You can literally sit in the lounge room and watch the kids playing on the beach across the road. Adjoining the verandah is a large open deck with a gas BBQ. The deck enjoys fabulous views of the beach and the park like garden at the rear of the property. The deck is well lit for night time entertaining.

The ground floor of the house includes a large bedroom with king bed which unzips to form two singles plus a separate single bed. It has its own external access and is separated from the rest of the house by the large adjacent living room. On the other side of the ground floor there are two smaller bedrooms each with two single beds, a bathroom no bath and large laundry. One of the smaller bedrooms also acts as access to the bathroom and laundry so is less private.

The house has been modified to make it more comfortable for elderly residents. The shower in the first floor bathroom is fitted with a hand shower, a pull down seat and hand rails and the toilet has hand rails fitted on the adjacent wall. However the only access between the ground floor and the first floor is via stairs.

In addition to being just meters from the best surfing beach on the south coast, the Break-Away Beach House is set in approximately one acre of manicured park like native garden. The garden is level and filled with native birds and wildflowers. You can enjoy your own private picnics or just relax, read a book and take in the beauty of of this most incredible space. it truly is and oasis of calm.

The Break-Away Beach House is a dog friendly house no cats. We allow a maximum of 2 small to medium dogs or one large dog. They must be house trained, not aggressive, clean and well behaved. The house has a fenced area connected to the laundry on the ground floor and a fully enclosed balcony on the first floor. Dogs must not be left unattended either in the house, on the balcony or in the garden at any time and simple house rules must be observed at all times. Guests must take full responsibility including the cost of cleaning up after or repairing any damage caused by your dogs. Tathra beach is mostly dog friendly, with plenty of local walks and parks in the area. Before visiting the area dog owners should seek advice on appropriate treatment for paralysis ticks.

Your Daily Schedule

The Break-Away Beach House offers visitors a unique beach holiday experience.

Start your day to the sound of the native birds out catching their worms and watch the sun rise over the ocean from your bed;

Rise for a run or walk on the beautiful white sands of Tathra beach or walk, run or ride along the level concrete path to the mouth of the Bega River at Mogareeka Inlet.

Enjoy an early morning swim or surf across the road in the pristine waters of Tathra Beach.

Breakfast at the famous Tathra Beach Pickle Factory which is just 6 doors down the road or buy a fresh croissant at Tathra Bakery only 5 doors in the other direction.

Back to the beach to practice your surfing and work your tan or hire a bike from Tathra Beach & Bike just 8 doors along the road and tackle one of Tathra's two quality single track mountain bike trails. Tathra Beach & Bike also has a wide variety of beach and surf equipment for hire.

Maybe follow that with lunch at home in the garden and a quick 9 or 18 holes of Golf or a game of Tennis at the picturesque Tathra Beach Country Club just a mile along the road.

Return home for a spot of beach fishing and if you're lucky you may pick up a fresh whiting or flathead for dinner.

Fire up the BBQ and enjoy a cleansing ale or two or nice wine as your relax after a hard days work.

All this and you haven't had to drive your car except maybe to transport your golf clubs.

Take a Drive

Visit the beautiful Bega Valley and explore the historic town of Bega.

Drive to Bermagui and enjoy some of he most spectacular coastal scenery anywhere on the east coast of Australia. Visit the wineries, the galleries or just detour to some of the most secluded beaches on the coast. if you have time take a look at Tilba Tilba and Cobago and explore some of their fascinating shops.

Go west to Candelo for the markets held on the first sunday of every month or take a visit to Kameruka Estate and visit the church made famous in the Bega Cheese ads.

Drive down to Eden and see the skeleton of Old Tom in the Eden Killer Whale Museum and then buy the book or DVD of "The Killers of Eden" for a fascinating insight into the early history of the area. While you're there visit Boydtown and enjoy a meal at the historic Sea Horse Inn.

Visit Merimbula for great shopping and food. Take the oyster tour at Wheeler's Oysters to discover how oysters are farmed and sample their legendary product. Why not take your golf clubs and hit a few balls at the famous Pambula Merimbula Gold Club across the road.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great place to stay Very comfortable, large, easy to live in house. Fantastic location. The house was very clean, and it had all the things that you would need to stay for a short while or a long while. It feels like a home, as it has soft finishes - it is not a minimalist house. We would very happily stay there again. My only wish may have been to have the back garden fenced in, so the 2 year old could run around with out being closely supervised.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Location, adaptable to small or large groups. We had a good stay the house, it was neat and tidy and it had a substantial backyard area with plenty tree's for shade. The front veranda area was a nice place to enjoy the view and sea breeze from. The only downside we could see was that we had a small fishing boat (4.3m) that we were unable to bring into the driveway without disconnecting it from the vehicle but once it was in there was plenty of room to put it. The tight turning area and hedges in the front garden could make it difficult if you were planning on bringing a boat or trailer. The driveway aside I would stay again and recommend this house to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great proporty in a great location We stayed in this property for four weeks from late August and very much enjoyed it. Great views of the beach and people watching from the balcony and living room. An easy walk up to the bowling club and local cafe's. The house was well equipped with most amenities needed for a comfortable stay, including good internet connectivity. As mentioned in the first line of the property description, the house is essentially a '60's beach house so don't expect minimalist/clinical modern spaces. The furnishings have "character" and you can sense the house has history but all furnishings are clean and very comfortable. I would hardly describe the place as cluttered. I would stay again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Old but Good The best thing about the house is that it is just across the road from the beach which you can see from the front veranda. Local shops are just a block away. Nice balcony area with outside dining and bbq. The clutter in the house has been reduced in the upstairs living area and is now much better. Still full of 70's furniture and still has the feel of staying at grandma's house. Dogs have only a small paved courtyard to stay in while you're away; shaded somewhat. Unfortunately the grassed garden area isn't fenced at all. Our dog was allowed inside while we were there in the house, permission is required. No dog bowls are provided, so bring your own. Most essentials were supplied, however, the little things were lacking, like salt, pepper, paper towels, plastic wrap. Air conditioned upstairs but not downstairs. No air con downstairs and no fans either so quite warm at night. For winter stays, lots of heater. In the summer the verandah gets unbelievably hot from sunrise to midday. No curtains to block out sun. Verandah great to sit in in the late afternoon/evening but you are very much on show with everyone from the caravan park walking past looking up at you. On the whole, it is a fairly good place to stay, you're paying for the location, certainly not for the mod cons.
