'Kangarutha Cottage' is a well loved house on a unique rural property of 120 Ha. Only 3 km from Tathra on the Tathra- Bega Road it is nestled on the fringe of tall coastal forest and has been in the Hamilton family for 40 years. The house has evolved over time which gives it a cosy but unconventional feel. The Cottage is situated only 150m from the main road but is hidden away over the hill with easy access and a wonderful rural view of paddocks, dams and forest.
The property comprises 2 buildings. The main house and an adjacent 'Lodge'. The rates shown are for the First 2 adults with a small extra per person charge up to 4 more persons ( 2 more may be allowed on mattresses or cot by consultation).
The main house is cosy with 2 bedrooms - a queen bed in the large bedroom and a single bed with trundle in a smaller bedroom. The kitchen, lounge room and dining area are the open plan hub of the house with a cosy wood fire (some firewood included) and an optional reverse cycle air con system .The bathroom has a bath/ shower, while the toilet is attached to the laundry.
The adjacent 'Lodge' consists of a queen bedroom and attached bathroom with shower and toilet and a rumpus/ sitting room.

Outside, the house has a roofed protected courtyard with table and BBQ. At the rear is a covered walkway to the 'lodge' where you can relax under a shady veranda. A short walk up steps leads to the artificial grass tennis court and basket ball ring where the kids can play safely. The court is a great spot for afternoon drinks while the kids play.
The sunsets from here are magnificent.
While the house is located next to a narrow laneway the house yard is very private. A small bird park business, 'On the Perch' is now open with large walk in aviaries and a café. It is only a short stroll for morning coffee. The business will be open from 10am to 4pm. Except Wednesday's.
A double carport is adjacent to the house entrance. The house yard is fully fenced with an extensive garden and small child swing set.
Out and about
The property 'Kangarutha' adjoins the northern section of Bournda national Park. The property itself has several kilometres of fire trails which transect the forested country. There are 3 major dams, built originally as nursery water supplies. The dams are on the forest fringe and nestle into the landscape with large wildlife trees nearby. There are a huge variety of birds and animals that live at or frequent the property and we can supply you with a comprehensive bird and plant species list if you are interested. The property is a naturalists delight. You are welcome to walk our trails, ride mountain bikes or bring your own horses, have a picnic, take photos, or paint a picture. We only live close by and will be happy to show you around.
We have several horses on the property and ask that our property protocols be followed ( supplied on booking and at the house.)
You will see many kangaroos and wallabies which frequent the paddocks and bush areas close to the house in the afternoons and mornings. At night you may hear or see Gliders, Ringtail, Brush tail and Pygmy possums plus some night bird noises from the distant Birdpark.
The trails at Kangarutha link with trails within the National Park and Official Mountain Bike tracks around Tathra. It is an easy walk to Tathra or to the coast at the Beautiful Boulder Bay on the Coastal Kangarutha Walking track which links Tathra to Wallagoot Lake. Here you can take a dip and walk on to Tathra. We can arrange to pick you up if you wish.
If you bring your horse you are welcome to ride on our property but strict rules apply (see below). You can also link into the outside trails to take a half day ride from home. You can also float your horse a short distance for full day ride opportunities. Riding on the beach may be frowned upon!
