The 1940s' cottage is prettily decorated with multiple bunches of faux flowers, flower paintings, flower-decorated clocks, flowered doonas and flower-patterned crockery. The cottage garden, with azaleas and climbers snuggled close to the house, also contains a dam with swans and ducks, tucked into a back corner.
The cottage is warm and comfortable, with soft couches by the fire and a separate sunroom that catches the rays in the afternoons.
Hunny Tor is a fabulous place for kids and dogs, and makes an excellent base to explore the beautiful Southern Highlands.
The cottage sleeps six, with a queen and two single beds in two bedrooms and a sofa bed in a small sunroom. Its kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher and microwave. The laundry contains a washer and dryer. A table with barbecue on a small back deck is great for dinner. Despite the open fireplace, there is also reverse cycle air conditioning for heating perhaps just in case you run out of wood. Scrabble, magazines, novels and DVDs for children and adults fill a small bookcase near the television and DVD player.
Bowral is a town where the main street is still lined with good book shops filled with browsers, busy boutiques and well-stocked delicatessens. An unhurried, friendly air pervades, with locals leading dogs stopping for chats. The cooler highlands location is where Sydney's gentry retired for summer, establishing grand estates and well-crafted townships that are now historic gems.
The Box Vale Mine track is an easyish walk through 4.4 kilometres of bush. It follows the path of rails used to transport coal, and includes an 84-metre tunnel and plenty of wombat holes. Tulip Time is big in Bowral, and the nearby historic village of Berrima is a great destination.
