High Hill. Stylish 1920's country house nestled in a dress circle location at the top of Mount Gibraltar.

Located in a dress circle location at the top of Mount Gibraltar, High Hill is a rare find. Modern mid-century and Scandinavian furniture thoughtfully combined with artefacts and objets d'art from Papua New Guinea, North Africa, and Australia creates a remarkable and stylish holiday experience. Formerly owned by the modernist Australian artist, Grace Crowley , High Hill has been recently restored to her former glory by new owners.

The location

High Hill is situated at the apex of Mount Gibraltar and a short 15 minute drive from the ‘Mittagong’ exit on the M5 Exit 11. The property is snuggled into the mountain with a glorious sunny aspect and offers captivating views over the heritage gardens and the valley below with distance views of Sydney. A citadel away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the house is just a 5 minute drive from the gorgeous Southern Highlands village, Bowral, and a short onwards drive to Berrima, Exeter and Moss Vale and to the many local wineries, boutique shops and stylish restaurants and cafes.

The house and gardens

Beyond the wrought iron gates, a curving driveway lined with clipped hedges will bring you to High Hill. A welcoming, private and calm country home, the house is filled with appealing features, including high ceilings, original panelled walls, wooden floorboards, an open fire and four elegant outdoor entertainment spaces. There is a well-chosen selection of books including Australiana, non-fiction, modern literature and reference books, magazines and games for the adults, as well as toys, books, games and puzzles for the kids.

Here with your family or friends, you can relax, read a book, chat, enjoy a glass of local wine in front of a crackling log fire, or take a walk around 1½ acres of beautifully manicured gardens.

The garden features established traditional stone walls and hedgerows, sweeping lawns, mature trees and flowering plants, including wild iris, double camellias, bush roses, magnolia and Japanese blossom. Beautiful Australian birds and fauna are regular visitors to the gardens, including possums, Whip Birds, King Parrots, Rosellas and Cockatoos. Children will enjoy the full-sized cubby house with its own patio and flower/vegetable garden.

Sit quietly enjoying the dramatic colours of an oncoming dusk with a backdrop of exceptional views from the sheltered balcony on a warm day, or snuggled inside, through expansive picture windows from the stylish lounge room. You can enjoy lunch, an aperitif or even a game of scrabble sitting around a large garden table, under the charming rose-covered rotunda or ascend the Italianate steps behind the kitchen to enjoy elevated views within the stone-lined alcove from the marble-topped table.

There is parking for up to eight cars, high speed internet and central heating.

The kitchen

In the well-appointed kitchen including a Kitchen Aid mixer, Scanpan cook wear, a double freestanding oven, espresso machine and dishwasher you can create delicious meals to enjoy at the elegant Danish dining table overlooking the gardens or alfresco on Italian marble in a Tuscan style courtyard in the sun.

The living areas

The main living areas feature two stylish lounge areas – one facing the large open fire with ornate high fireplace and one facing the picture window overlooking the gardens. The entrance alcove/library boasts a wall of reference books, reading nooks and a table full of interesting books and objects. The dining room also enjoys a sunny aspect over the gardens through a picture window. The windows and doors in the living area open out onto the garden and the front patio area allowing convenient access to the gardens and the refreshingly cool climate of the Southern Highlands.

The bedrooms

The four well-sized bedrooms feature custom made beds fitted with top-of-the-range duck down doonas duvets and underlays topped with fluffy duck feather pillows. The master suite has views over the garden and includes its own study with a large Apple computer with internet access for guests, dressing area and library. The master bedroom features a Super King-sized bed and a brand-new marble bathroom with a deep bath, Hans Grohe fittings and under-floor heating. The second bedroom features a King-sized bed and spectacular views over the garden and the 40-year old magnolia tree with a glorious display of large pink magnolia flowers in spring. The third bedroom has two single beds perfect for children, with access to a separate toilet and bathroom, rumpus room and separate access to the garden. The fourth bedroom has a Super-King sized bed and a brand-new en-suite bathroom featuring Moroccan-style heated floors, Hans Grohe bathroom fittings and a heated towel rail.

The rumpus room and laundry

The rumpus room features a generous B&B Italia sofa which can convert into a comfortable large single bed, a 65 inch smart TV and hundreds of DVDs to choose from a wide selection of world and Australian cinema as well as movies for the kids. The house also features a large laundry space with brand-new Miele washing machine and separate Miele dryer.
