Bundanoon Lakehouse is a large European inspired provincial farmhouse in the heart of the Southern Highlands. It is large enough for 2 families and is the ideal place to base your self to enjoy all the Highlands has to offer, or just escape from the city.
Sitting on an elevated position of 20 acres of rich highland soil the trees and gardens of the property have matured to offer natural beauty, protection and total privacy for this wonderful retreat.
One of the many features of the property is the stunning private lake from which the Bundanoon lakehouse shares with 2 adjoining properties and takes its name from.
Entering through rustic gates and driving down the gently curving clay driveway leads you to the Lakehouses’ substantial accommodation. Inspired by traditional European architecture, the farmhouse has 2 distinct wings with high roof pitches connected by a stunning glassed walkway which acts as the main dining hall. With 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, multiple living/ seating areas, a rumpus room and wrap around verandah the house is perfect for 2 families to share. A second TV in the rumpus room adjoining the garage with table tennis and foozball tables ensures that the parents can enjoy the main lounge and dining wing of the house and the kids have their own area.
Abundant in its proportions , Bundanoon Lakehouse has many spaces to relax in or entertain. From the sun drenched front courtyard, the substantial dining pavilion with 12 seat banquet table , or the verandah with banana lounges, an outdoor area with pizza oven and BBQ overlooking the picturesque lake and sloping lawns, inside and out Bundanoon Lakehouse is an entertainers dream or relaxers haven.
The house is of full brick construction to keep you cool in summer and with its fireplaces and electric heaters in each bedroom will help insulate you in winter. There will be enough wood supplied to have fires during your winter stay, however we ask you to be frugal with this finite resource and use the 2 slow combustion heaters. We want you to be comfortable during your stay and the lakehouse is a big house with vaulted family room ceilings so we also provide plenty of rugs thermo rugs for you to snuggle up with and we appreciate you being sensible with the wood.
Depending on what time of year you are coming, the lakehouses’stunning diverse flora will delight you with spectacular vibrance of the flowering blossom season, the rich warm colours of autumn, summer greens or the winter deciduous shedding. Mature natives on a number of points create feature, privacy and protect you from the western sun so you can enjoy a drink on the balcony and look down at the lake. Around the property you will see mature elms, oaks, “ Bruce” the blue spruce, liquid ambers, manchurian pears, japanese maples, olives, weeping cherry, blossom and chestnut trees. The property also has a range of citrus trees. Orange, lemon, lime, lemonade, mandarin and grapefruit. They mature at different times in the year, so feel free to pick some to enjoy during your stay, but please be mindfull of leaving plenty for others. The property also has apple and plum trees in the western paddocks. If you are there at the right time try an apple or a plum. The general rule of thumb is the fruit is ripe the day before the birds eat it So good luck
Undulating lawns roll you down from the house to the vine covered lake pergola. A wooden tender with oars in the garage is available for you to set off from the pergola lake steps. The lake is fed by a natural spring which helps maintain its levels in periods of drought and if you are staying in the heat of summer it’s a great way to cool off… please note that there is no safety equipment around the lake, if you are around, on or in the lake it is at your own risk.
Enjoy a game of tennis on the allweather tennis court or have a family game of basketball with the hoop set up in the court.
In the cooler months toast yourself some s'mores at the outdoor firepit… theres plenty of room with the old railway sleepers set on local sandstone blocks, so get out the guitar and have a singalong. But strictly no fires in November to February inclusive or in periods of fire bans… at all other times you must check the NSW rural fire service website, to check if you can have a fire.
The rustic metal door and bars that feature in the northern courtyard of the house are believed to be from the Old Goulburn jail and on the southern side you will find a wood fired pizza oven which was resurrected from an old bakery in Newtown.
