The Cottage at White Birch Farm is a charming two bedroom fully self-contained cottage located on our 25 acre hobby farm at Robertson in the NSW Southern Highlands. It is north facing with stunning rural views from every sun-filled window, all the way to the Blue Mountains. The building is nestled in three acres of beautiful old established gardens including Japanese maples, magnolias, rhododendrons, azaleas and hundreds of bulbs. Our pastures support 11 friendly sheep, two alpacas, three donkeys, and some cattle. They all have names We have also recorded 70 species of birds on the property.
Our farm includes a unique 12 acre rainforest with an informative signposted walk you are welcome to explore. We have recently planted an arboretum and are in the process of establishing a Japanese garden.
There are two bedrooms sleeping four people in total. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed and bedroom 2 has two king single beds. Tariff includes all linen, towels, bedding, tea and coffee and free wifi. Reverse cycle air conditioning is in the living room and there are oil heaters and electric blankets in the bedrooms. There is a flat screen 3D TV in the lounge, and DVDs, books and games are provided. The well equipped kitchen includes an electric stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and cooking utensils. A gas BBQ is on the verandah. The cottage is on town water supply. The rumpus room underneath has a table tennis table, washing machine and dryer.
We have a large studio that was recently used by Australia's greatest living artist John Olsen, to paint his biggest work since the Sydney Opera House mural.
Unfortunately as we have vulnerable animals and wildlife we don't allow pets.
Also no children under 5 please.
We welcome families, but The Cottage is essentially designed for couples and singles there is no bath and there are four fishponds on the property. Children over 5 must be supervised.
The property is strictly non smoking.
For your added security, this property is only managed in Australia and we never request payments be made to overseas bank accounts.
Robertson is less than two hours from Sydney and sits on the escarpment at 770 metres. It is the gateway to the many charming European style villages of the Southern Highlands showcasing boutique shops, art galleries, cafes, antiques, farmers' markets and fabulous gardens. The Bradman International Cricket Hall of Fame is 25 minutes away in Bowral and there are numerous cool climate wineries and restaurants to explore.
Only a few minutes drive from Robertson village are national parks including the very impressive Fitzroy, Carrington and Belmore waterfalls and the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk.
The beautiful beaches of Kiama and Shellharbour, the Jamberoo Action Park and the Minnamurra Rainforest Centre are only 40 minutes drive down the spectacular rainforest escarpment. The world famous white sands of Jervis Bay are 1 hour 15 minutes away.
A day trip is also possible to Canberra with a 2 hour drive.
The village of Robertson is a three minute drive from The Cottage and has basic needs for your supplies, including a supermarket, butcher, deli, bakery and the iconic Cheese Factory. If you don't wish to cook at home, there is a very good restaurant at the pub, excellent bowling club Asian food, texmex at Rockabellas, wood fired pizzas and pasta at Pizzas in the Mist, three cafes and a pie shop. There are also gift shops, retro shops, an antique shop, a pharmacist, doctor, servo, mechanic and hairdresser.
The historic railway station has regular visits from the Cockatoo Run train, and the occasional steam train. Every February/March the Robertson show is a legendary event in the Southern Highlands. At various times of the year cheese making courses, ceramic and art classes, and truffle hunts can be found in Robertson.
It was in Robertson that the movie Babe was filmed because of its rolling green hills. Many famous artists, writers, composers, actors, filmmakers and television personalities have chosen Robertson as their home.
