Welcome to Toongla
This is a fantastic place to get away from it all and breathe in fresh country air
This heritage listed property dates back to 1873 and is located between Albion Park and Macquarie Pass National Park, sited on a grassy ridge with panoramic views over the Tullimbar Valley named after a local tribal leader to the Illawarra Escarpment and Lake Illawarra.
The original owners the Scanian family referred to their residence as “Green Mount Villa”. In 1886 the family changed the homestead’s name to “Toongla”. This largely intact Victorian Villa is constructed of Colonial bonded brick and has a hipped iron roof with three large stuccoed chimneys. Interiors have cedar joinery, some iron ceilings and interesting fireplaces.
At the request of its owners, a Permanent Conservation Order was granted for its long term protection in 1987.
A perfect base to return to after exploring the coastal Shell Harbour region and the Southern Highlands.
The property is 15 min drive from Kiama beach.
