Comfortable unique pad in the inner city. Build in 1880 but with new kitchen and bathroom, and close to all that Sydney has to offer. Home away from home.
The basement level was a wine and beer cellar but is now used for storage and houses the laundry. At ground level there is a living room and kitchen. There is a comfortable double sofa bed in the living room for when there are more than two guests,
The first floor has the main bedroom and the bathroom.
On the 4th level there is a study space, and an outdoor rooftop deck.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with gas stove, fridge (small), microwave etc....There is a flat screen Full HD TV, wireless and ethernet cable internet connection and telephone for outward calls including local, national and mobile calls. It is also possible to call out to several international countries Including the UK, USA, Canada, France, and Germany, but please discuss with the owner before doing so. Any tolled calls made will be taken out of the bond.
There are desktop computers (3) and wifi printer/scanner, but guests are also invited to bring their own lap top, iPads and smart phones to connect to the internet via WIFI. There is no additional change for use of the internet.
A small BBQ is located on the rooftop deck.
Entrance to the property is via digital code and there is no need to pick up a key, so access is available 24/7. The owner lives 2 blocks away if assistance is needed.
Getting around - buses, trains and better - walking and soaking up the victorian atmosphere of the environs
The property is 3 minutes walk to Redfern station (one stop to Central and two stops to Town Hall). Buses run from Lawson Street (near Regent) into the city along Elizabeth street), and from City road (400 metres) along Broadway and George street. Sydney University to two blocks away. The carriage works theatre complex and saturday markets ar 3 blocks away, and the Seymour centre is two blocks away. The swimming pool at Victoria park takes 5 minutes (on foot). Supermarkets are 10 minutes walk away in three directions (Central Park, Broadway shopping centre) and on Regent street Alexandria.
Darlington has its own cafe culture with 5 cafes within a 3 minute walk of the house. There is also a Japanese restaurant, pizza and kabab and thai take away one block away. It is possible to walk (15 minutes) to the heart of Newtown with hundreds of restaurants and cafe's, or to walk into chinatown and Darling Harbour (15 minutes). The house if 10 minutes walk to the University of Technology, Central park shops. Trains and buses run frequently so there is no need to consult a timetable.
There are numerous pubs close by which also offer excellent food (the Royal, The Duck Inn......)
Quiet and safe
Being one block away from Abercrombie street, the house is away from the constant stream of students making their way to the University. Just follow the crowd and then peel away 50 metres down Ivy lane and you are home.
There are lots of people walking about so it is a very safe place. Most are going to the Seymour centre, the University or to the Victoria park so there are people walking by at all times of the day and night. However not much traffic comes past because it is limited thru access with no direct vehicle access to Abercrombie street.
Like any big city however it is important to be security conscious. Edward street is a beautiful street with lots of Victorian Terrace houses (the suburb is heritage listed) and the street is lined with paperbark trees. The roof top deck is a great place to sit and read on a sunny day.
