Lyrebird Haven – Where Wildlife Wander
Pittwater’s hidden charm, Lyrebird Hideaway is the perfect retreat both summer and winter. The three bedroom cottage is encircled by tree tops overlooking the quiet valley of Mackeral Beach which is surrounded by Kur-Ring-Gai Chase National Park.
Great Mackerel Beach - directly across Pittwater from the Palm Beach Ferry Wharf on Barrenjoey Road. Access to Mackerel is by ferry or water taxi. Ferry timetable can be found on the Palm Beach Ferry website.
Wildlife - Lyrebirds, lorrikeets, king parrots, kookaburras visit often, especially early in the mornings and at dusk, as do wallabies, goannas and brush turkeys. The shy lyrebirds sing and sometimes even do their courting dance in our back garden. Wake up to wallabies roaming around the garden or watch the goannas scale up the trees in search of breakfast.
The Beach – just a five minute stroll down grassy Monash Avenue. There are no cars, just a few golf buggies and most homes use wheelbarrows for transporting luggage and supplies. The swimming is safe and clean in the calm waters of Pittwater and the bushwalks are amazing.
The House – the three bedrooms with two ensuites are on the lower level. The upper level is a large open plan living area with kitchen, dining, and lounge area and adjacent ensuite. There is also a pull-out double lounge available. This room opens to both the back garden patio in a lovely, leafy garden setting, and to our large sunny front deck which has seating for eight and an electric BBQ, so is an excellent area for entertaining.
