THE PROPERTY AND AREA
Nestled between the river and the Yengo Mountains, you will unwind as soon as you enter the driveway. Sit on the cool veranda which girts the building, listen to the sound of bellbirds, watch the Kookaburras and Kangaroos and look out along the silvery McDonald River or over the fields and across the valley.
Swim laps in the new 15m long pool or sit in the cutout and look over the gully and hillside.
There are numerous bush walks possible on the property; around the cleared lands, up to a flat rock peak to watch the sunrise or across adjoining farmland for a swim or kayak in the river. We have walking access to the McDonald River across the road at the front of the property and we adjoin the Yengo National Park to the rear.
Yanada is in the McDonald Valley 2km outside the historic village of St Albans. We adjoin the Yengo National Park and are 15 minutes from Wisemans Ferry and the Hawkesbury River. Yanada, meaning 'moon', is at the southern tip of Darkinjung country, very close to the borders with Dharug land and the Erora nation.
This place is hidden and remote known since first European settlements here as the Forgotten Valley yet only 1½ hours drive from Sydney.
The drive itself is beautiful. From Sydney, once you leave the M2 and Pennant Hills Road you will follow the original convict built route north from Sydney. The Old North Road takes you along the Dural ridge with stunning Blue Mountain views, through Marramurra National Park and down into Wisemans Ferry, set on a picturesque loop in the Hawkesbury river system. Cross the free Webbs Creek vehicular ferry, a 4 min ride, then along the McDonald Valley, with steep sandstone cliffs and the meandering river, to Yanada, just before the National Trust village of St Albans.
The McDonald Valley and Hawkesbury area
Leaving Yanada, you can walk, drive or cycle into Historic St Albans Village with its famous Settlers Arms Inn. Further up the valley you can visit old cemeteries and commons, venture into the Yengo National Park or walk or cycle along the Old Great North Road, built by convicts following tracks shown to them by the Darkinjung people. This was the original and only route north of Sydney, now closed to traffic and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Well-preserved Darkinjung and Dharug engravings can also be viewed in a number of locations in Yengo National Park as well as further north in the Wollombi National Park.
Further north the drive takes you through the Wollombi National Park, to Cessnock and the Hunter Valley Wine Region.
A few minutes south, Wisemans Ferry provides a number of leisure attractions including golf, swimming and bowling. There are local amenities at Wisemans; resort, bowling club, pub with bottle shop, small supermarket, restaurants, service station, post office, police and doctor.
