We welcome you to experience a journey to Hawksbury River's ultimate getaway, Amaroo Cottage. Nothing compares.....

Back in 1935 there were just 6 dwellings on the bend of the Hawkesbury River called Bar Point. One of these was Amaroo Cottage. In those days the river cottages were set slightly back from the river with a boatshed located at the waters edge.

All the original buildings still exist at Amaroo and have been faithfully restored by the present owners. French doors from the main cottage lounge and master bedroom open onto a large verandah that captures the morning light all year round. The newly renovated kitchen blends perfectly with the pot belly stove that is recessed in the original stand stone kitchen wall.

A gas barbeque is ideally located on the lawn by the waters edge. The outdoor garden table, studio deck and private boatshed are perfect settings for afternoon drinks before retreating to the cottage terrace for sunset dining. Amaroo offers complete relaxation by the river.

Arrive midweek by mail boat, or water taxi, own boat, runabout during weekends. Jonathan or Mary - tel - can advise on catering & any restaurant excursions that you may want to plan.

What to do

Staying at Amaroo Cottage is mostly about doing nothing. There are however a couple of fishing rods, a great collection of books, magazines & board games to keep you occupied. A stereo, small TV & video are also in place.

For those who wish to explore further afield, we suggest you arrange hire of a tinny.

We also have a double seater Kayak which is great for exploring the local shoreline and lazing around on this beautiful river.

Head over to Peats Bite a fabulous place to dine on the weekends with a pick up and drop off service available to Amaroo Guests.

Arrive by mail boat (midweek), water taxi or your own boat. Please feel free to contact Mary or Jonathan - - to discuss any further issues.

What to bring

Food & Beverage
Favourite CD's & Videos
Hooks, bait, sinkers ... for those keen to fish

If you would like us to assist in a catering delivery or recommend restaurants, please contact us well in advance.

We will have the boatshed open, table set if required, with the music playng etc ready for your arrival.

Brooklyn & Kangaroo Point are just 48km from the Sydney Harbour Bridge so we generally suggest travelling time is less than one hour from Sydney to reach this very unique weekend getaway.

Please contact us on the above telephone number to discuss any special transport issues. (eg how suitable is a "Rubber Duck" as a mode of transport)

Generally check in times are anytime after 1.00 PM on Fridays, check out by 4.00PM the day you leave. Midweek times by arrangment.

As we will leave the place open for your arrival, it is important that you let us know if you are going to be greatly delayed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heaven again This is our fourth time at Amaroo and every time it is better and better. the cottage is always spotless and it seems like home again miles away from home. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful escape. Dinner from the jetty yet again two nights in a row and over competitive darts fogged by a glass of red on the deck at night. Thank you so much. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful house, view and garden. Very tranquil Perfect stay At Amaroo. House is beautifully furnished. The owners have thought of everything. It is very comfortable and homely with everything you could need (note: both reels on fishing rods are broken so not able to fish without own rod). Lovely view and generally a very relaxing weekend. We will definitely be back
