Our friendly vegetarian home is located close to Maroubra beach, famous for surfing and for beautiful coastal walks around Malabar Headland National Park. Buses to the city stop near the front door, and the studio is set in a lovely spacious garden. The kitchen, bathroom and lounge are upstairs in the apartment.
The studio is set up for relaxing short stays, and is best suited to solo travellers. There is a new foldout couch 120cm x 190cm which is pretty comfortable, and we have bedding and towels available if you need them.
Our household is vegetarian, so we ask that you respect this condition if eating-in. We occasionally watch films together and there is a projector in the lounge room, hooked up to a decent sound system on which you can also play records or connect your own devices.
You are welcome to share the communal areas in the house, and to make use of the garden and laundry facilities. We have a bokashi bin for food scraps and there are rubbish and recycling facilities out the front.
There is a Hills Hoist in the garden shared with our downstairs neighbours and there are indoor clotheslines in the laundry in case it rains. For relaxing at home we have an eclectic library of DVDs and plenty of good books which you are welcome to read while you are staying with us.
We enjoy a shared meal, but you can choose to spend time with us or not, as suits your plans. There are usually four of us living in the apartment, and we also have a non-vegetarian kitten who is very cute and likes human company, but she must stay indoors.
Please note that the studio is an office when not in use by guests, so it is set up accordingly, including wifi, but there is no en-suite; the shared bathroom and other facilities are in our apartment upstairs.
Our home is best suited to mindful guests who are not just looking for a hotel experience. The grass verge down to our front gate from the footpath is a bit steep, and there are also steps up to our front door, so access for guests without full mobility would be difficult. Being an older house, there are some great period features such as high ceilings, stained glass windows and polished floorboards, but the rooms are not well soundproofed, so please be aware of this during your stay.
There are two bus routes that service the city with stops near our front door. If you arrive in Sydney by plane it should cost about $25 to get an uber, ola or taxi to our place, and if you are travelling in your own vehicle there is always free on-street parking. A stroll to the beach is five or ten minutes by foot, and UNSW is fifteen minutes away by bicycle.
Finally, our home and studio are shoe-free inside and our cat is not allowed outside, so please do not let her escape
