Bangalla - Scotland Island

Bangalla is situated on the South East side of Scotland Island, one of only two populated islands in Sydney and home to around 300 families. The island is located in the heart of Pittwater, one of three drowned river valleys in the Sydney area Sydney Harbour being the largest.

Pittwater is bounded on one side by the Barrenjoey Peninsula which is an extension of urban Sydney, and on the other side by the beautiful Kurangai National Park. This setting creates a natural water-sports arena, home to some of the finest closed water sailing in Australia.

Scotland Island is 3 min by boat from Church Point, and a ferry leaves regularly for the island and other boat only access bays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Stay! We had a wonderful long weekend up at Bangalla. What an incredible property. The fishing was fabulous too, straight of the wharf, my son was thrilled. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sydney's Most Stunning Estate On The Pittwater If you are lucky enough to stay at Bangalla, you really are experiencing one of Sydney’s premier properties in a truly unique location. We booked for my husbands special birthday and the property took our family's breath away! Every detail was exquisite; from the spacious layout of the home, to the breath-taking entertainers dream location inside The Pavilion, to the gorgeous gardens [perfect for kids – big and small to explore], to the additional wood stock piled around the property for the three incredible fireplaces, to the Aesop bathroom products and the extraordinary commercial oven and kitchen which was a dream to cook in. Firstly, do not be afraid of the water access only for this property. The water taxi service for this area is excellent and always arrived within five minutes of phoning them. But a warning, don't call unless you are ready to go as like all taxi's they don't like waiting around. The guys run on a mobile number and operate from early morning until around midnight on weekends. They also take eftpos, so just indulge and use the water taxi service for the fun method of arriving that it is. Also, if you have bags, cases, luggage and a car load [or three like we did] of shopping, the water taxi guys will help you get everything on and off the boat safely - even in windy weather, they were amazing and reassuring. The property itself is stunning. It's so spacious with so much wildlife, flora, fauna that you could explore for hours. We saw an enchidna on the first night - it was amazing. From the jetty, a warning that there is a long staircase up to the main-house, so leave everything at the jetty and check out the property first, then slowly ferry everything upstairs when you have taken in how incredible the property is. Trust me, it will make the little work-out, completely worth it. There are three fireplaces across the property; and we used all three of them the entire long weekend. Its very much a winter house as much as its a summer house, so even if you don't use the pool, it's still divine in winter. There is plenty of wood stock although we did some of our chopping for fun; the boys loved it. There is also connected audio throughout the whole property, which like any sound system, takes some working out as its a touch tricky [and yet incredible once you get the way it works]. Its operated by an i-pad and is incredibly clever/cool touchpoint. Some practical advice for future guests, there are lots of essentials at the property; foil, conserves and spreads, sugar, oil and salt & pepper in the kitchen so don't go overboard with shopping. Same with household products; there are additional throws and pillows in each room for fussy sleepers. Board games, beautiful books to read, high chairs, cots. Just bring the essentials; it will save you time and energy. The Property Manager was excellent in every regard; friendly, prompt, professional and warm so I must say I was shocked to read some negative commentary below from other guests. I need to extend thanks for her making time to answer every detailed question I had. I'm an over-planner on these weekends away [which we do regularly] and all my questions were all answered perfectly. Including any questions I had across the weekend, she was always on speed dial by phone or text. Thank you lovely Kerrie! This is a bucketlist property; so indulge, enjoy the water taxi fun, embrace that its remote, charter a boat like we did on our second day, do some fishing off the wharf, have a few drinks on the jetty at sunset. Its really a breath-taking property that is unlike anything else in Sydney! Enjoy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fantastic property - let down by poor Manager!!! Property, location and facilities 10/10. Property manager extremely unprofessional and rude. Apparently the pool is only heated if you pay "a large extra charge and advise a week before to turn on" not mentioned anywhere in T&C's. Cleanliness was below average, sheets were stained and soiled underwear found under bed, lots of dust and cobwebs, broken lights and dangerous electrical fittings!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from beautiful house, terrible service - no attention to detail. - never mentioned that we couldn't get to the island by car and that carrying bags of groceries would be a hassle. - didn't return lost property.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can not recommend this property enough; we stayed for four nights and feel as though weve had a 2 week break. This property is the most beautiful and relaxing place Ive stayed. We are hoping to make a visit to Bangalla a biennial event.
