Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relaxing Retreat We loved our stay at Oak Beach Cottage. We loved the beach views from the house and the grounds were stunning. The house is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The beach is also beautiful and we barely saw anyone on it. It is close to Port Douglas for tours and restaurants which we enjoyed as well. We look forward to coming back to enjoy this property even though it is a 15 hour flight from Canada. Its worth it!! The owner is also lovely and helped us with some of our trip planning with what tours to try. Can't wait to come back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Week at the Beach I just returned from a week at Oak Beach with group of friends, each with young children. We rented three houses on the beach side of Oak Street and enjoyed a great week of relaxing and catching up. Oak Beach was a great location for this. It is a sleepy beach enclave in a tropical location. Coconut palms and other native trees line the beach and we often felt like we had it all to ourselves. The house was well appointed and well maintained. It has a great veranda and yard that goes straight down to the beach. It was a lovely place to eat breakfast, dinner or evening drink. The house also has a secluded pool, which was a great location for an afternoon swim since it was well shaded. Inside, the house was smaller than we expected. There is one large bedroom with a huge ensuite, and another bedroom with two single beds. The third bedroom was in a ‘bungalow’ and not attached to the house. It is fair to say that this was a very rudimentary room with louvered windows and older air-con unit and no ensuite. If you like glamping, then this bungalow would be perfect, but if having to use the bathroom in the night would be a problem for you, then this could be an issue. It wasn’t a problem for us since we didn’t use that room. I have to admit that we were a little nervous about encountering crocodiles on the unpatrolled beach, but we didn’t see any throughout the week. We were hesitant to swim in the beach, especially with little kids, but I note that all week we saw others who did swim, including from the resort around the headland to the north who would paddle down on kayaks or run along the beach. A local told us that as long as we didn’t enter the creek, we would be unlikely to have a problem. For the week we were there, this advice held up. The kids did happily play on the beach when supervised. We had two minor issues during the week, which were dealt with very promptly when we contacted Yolanda, the housekeeper. Yolander also followed up with us to make sure they were resolved. The service we got in that regard was excellent. The wifi was very good. I would recommend this house for a family of four, or more if you don’t mind the bungalow arrangement.
