Location and Surrounds

Solana on Four Mile Beach is a townhouse located in a very quiet cul-de-sac only 110 metres from the renown and picturesque Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas. Less than a two minute walk! The permanent right of way access path to the beach crosses a small and shaded public park (Bruno Reidweg) with a well equipped children's playground and BBQs.

Shared with only five other units, Solana townhouse is away from major resorts. The Four Mile Shops, including a delicatessen/cafe, bottle shop, video store and take-away are approximately 700m away and the IGA supermarket and Tropical Habitat about 1 km. Several great restaurants are within easy bike or walking distance. Port Douglas's shopping, restaurant and entertainment street, Macrossan Street, is less than five minutes by car or an easy 15-20 minute ride on the dedicated, safe bike path. Local mini-bus services also operate routine schedule to and from town. Considering regional attractions, guests may however find the convenience of a hire car for the duration of their stay to be useful.

Furniture and Fittings

The townhouse is exceptionally well appointed, being a private residence rented to guests only because the owner currently travels much overseas. Furniture, linen, electrical appliances and kitchenware in the townhouse are of the highest quality and functionality and mostly less than two years old. Throughout, rooms are fully air-conditioned, as well as having efficient ceiling fans (including patio and balconies outdoors). Upstairs balconies are insect screened as well, to allow sleeping guests to enjoy the balmy tropical night air during the dry season.


FREE WIFI INTERNET IS PROVIDED IN THE APARTMENT. It is advanced 5G capacity and well covers the entire apartment, under password protection. Operation is consistent and reliable. A very generous Gb limit is maintained, suitable for all reasonable usage, but slows if high volume downloads are made. Mobile phone reception is functional but Port Douglas, being 'rural', does not enjoy perfect blanket coverage as in a major city. At times, reception drops if the operator is moving around inside the apartment. Stationary conversation on the patio/balconies is best.


#Upstairs has 3 bedrooms and 2½-bathrooms configured as:

*Master bedroom with King size bed and en suite bathroom with a large spa bath.

*Second bedroom with Queen size bed

*Third bedroom, that can be either one zipped King or split into two King singles

#All beds are top range, with quality mattresses and underlays

#Second bathroom and a separate toilet, to serve the second and third bedrooms

#Private balconies off each bedroom, with ceiling fan and big cushioned seats and table

The open space dining room downstairs seats a minimum 6.

#A semi-formal crockery set and (valuable) handcrafted serving platters are available in the sideboard near the front door.

Beach items, including chairs, umbrella, towels, portable fridge, drink cooler, racquets and children's beach toys are provided. If taken to the beach or park, please treat as your own. Ensure they are brought back to the unit and washed/cleaned of sand and salt.

Two quality ADULT bicycles (one male,one female) with helmets and carry baskets, are at the unit for guest use. They are stored in the garage, accessible through its side door opposite the back gate. USE IS STRICTLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. If more are needed (or say, children's bikes) several bike hire outlets, with fair rates, operate in Port Douglas.

Children and Disabled

Children, appropriately supervised, are welcome at 5 Solana by the Beach. A baby cot, high chair (a 'booster' type seat that fastens securely to one of the solid bench chairs) and stair guard are in the unit. The kitchen is equipped with children's cutlery and crockery.

Being a two-story townhouse, the unit has limitations for guests that may be wheel-chair confined. If desired, a fold away bed can be arranged with ablutions possible in the laundry.


Regrettably carport parking is not usually available and is very difficult to negotiate anyway. Parking is therefore easiest kerbside, immediately in front of the townhouse. The street is a very quiet cul-de-sac, so a convenient and safe space is normally available. Port Douglas can be considered a low crime area, but keep your vehicle locked and any valuables out of sight.

To protect furniture and fittings, and in the interest of future guests who may have allergies, NO PETS PLEASE.

In the interests of future guests (as well as the non-smoking owner!) and in keeping with now common practice in Australian homes, PLEASE NO SMOKING INSIDE the townhouse. If you need to smoke, use the patio, garden or upstairs balconies and dispose your butts in the rubbish.

Local Attractions

Solana offers a relaxing and comfortable holiday base, perfectly located to discover Port Douglas, Four Mile Beach and attractions beyond. Port Douglas is one of Australia's prettiest and iconic tourist destinations, founded in 1877 around a small safe river outlet to service initially the gold, then the timber and sugar industries. The village offers great shopping, especially resort clothing and accessories, and a diverse range of restaurants, cafes and hotels/bars. There is a fantastic Sunday market. Unquestionably, it is the premier base to explore two of Australia's, and indeed the World's, most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. Firtly, the Great Barrier Reef. It is the largest living structure on the planet. Stretching 2300km, the reef covers some 344,400 square km in area, with over 3000 individual coral reef clusters, 600 continental islands, 300 coral cays and about 150 inshore mangrove islands. There are more than 600 types of soft and hard corals, over 100 species of jellyfish, 3000 plus varieties of molluscs, 625 types of fish, 133 varieties of sharks and rays, and more than 30 species of whales and dolphins. Secondly, the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation National Parks. They provide lead examples of the Wet Tropics of Queensland, a wider region of spectacular scenery and rugged topography. Over 30 per cent of Australia's marsupial species, 58 per cent of bat species, 29 per cent of frog species, 20 per cent of reptile species, 58 per cent of the butterfly species, 40 per cent of bird species and 85 species of vertebrate animals reside in the Wet Tropics. Aboriginal occupation of the area probably dates back to the earliest human occupation of Australia some 50,000 years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home away from home This was our first stay at accommodation outside of centre of town, in doing so we gained a much larger place than normal. Lots of rooms, space, facilities including a private plunge pool. The quality, fit-out, facilities of this accommodation was first rate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding family Property We took our elderly mothers on a family break. The property was perfect. The kitchen so well stocked for all your needs. Every room with fans and aircon and the terrace all with fans as well. So close to the beach a fabulous deli and the IGA. Parking was brilliant it's a real find. Crispin was brilliant and so helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice five star property ! My two teenage children and I traveled from NZ to stay at this wonderful property in July. It is just as described much better than staying cramped in a family room in a resort and was perfect for our needs. Fantastically equipped kitchen and wonderful large master en suite bedroom with spa bath. I agree with other reviews that although there is alternative transport into the town centre to get the most out of the property we were really pleased that we had rented a car. We had a detailed email before we arrived with suggested trips and supermarkets etc however no contact with the manager ( owners brother) during our stay. So the only thing I felt missing was an information folder with basic tips and suggestions of local restaurants how to walk to the beach etc. Also advisable if you want certain bedding configurations etc to request at time of booking . Wonderful stay though thank you really hope to return one day

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent property After a spur of the moment decision to escape Melbourne's winter, we were very lucky to find Solana. As Crispin answered our enquiry very quickly, we were able to book flights immediately, and arrived just a couple of days later for our 10 day holiday. The owner had provided detailed information about the property and the town house certainly lived up to expectations; it was exactly as depicted and described. I particulary appreciated the well equipped kitchen, an area which often falls short in rental properties when only the minimum of utensils are supplied. The location is superb with just a short stroll to glorious Four mile beach and a piece of paradise. We enjoyed day excursions to Mossman Gorge, Cape Tribulation, Daintree village, Wonga Beach and the Atherton tablelands. The cooling sound of water bubbling in the fountains is a wonderful way to wake up and start the day! The only drawback was having to return to a Melbourne winter, after 10 days of glorious sunshine with temperatures in the mid to high twenties. Irene and Peter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great family place Thanks Crispin. 5 Solana met and exceeded all our expectations.It is beautifully appointed with everything one could ask for in the kitchen and out , even a great coffee machine !!.We made good use of the bikes and swimming pool. So close to 4 mile beach(120m) and away enough from the town to feel very private.Your personal advice really helped us plan a great trip around the area.
