Rated 3 out of 5 by from A stunner in its day, could do with a refresh I'd open with saying that we did enjoy our time at the pavilion, it's in a very handy position and has stunning views to the hinterland. As I say in the title, this place would have been stunning in its day but it is in need of some TLC. The word that we used regularly was "tired". The folks at Port Douglas Getaways provide a good service and assisted with our access after hours due to our late arrival. We were there in June and unfortunately didn't get to use the pool because of the temperature at the time. In warmer months it would be a blessing I'm sure. The good - Great location within easy walking distance the heart of town. Great views across the inlet to the hinterland. Facing roughly northwest and tucked under the higher points of the hill, it makes it a comfortable place to be outside when the trade winds are blowing or the weather is squally (as they were this trip). Ideally set up for 2 couples which would help offset the costs. The not so good - It's all a bit tired. The light on the pool didn't work, there were many louvres in need of replacement. There was a large box of Nespresso caps but no machine. All things that are easily treated, but when considering the relatively premium price it does put a question mark on the value in my opinion. Things to consider - This place is set up for the tropics and designed to allow cross flow breezes to cool it down. You therefore can not close the main pavilion off to the outside, so make sure you have a can of rid and a healthy supply of mozzie coils handy. The benefit of being close to the action does cut both ways. We enjoyed our nights in town making use of the restaurants and bars, and the various live music available, all so close to the pavilion. On the nights we decided to stay in and enjoy a meal we also got to hear said restaurants, bars and bands until closing. In summary, if you want to stay in a nice place that has fantastic views and is in the thick of the action, I'd consider this one, particularly if you're travelling in a foursome. If you want a quiet location in which to unwind and be pampered, possibly head a bit further out of town. The folks at PD getaways did mention that some renovations had been approved by the owners so hopefully it will improve for those who follow.
