Tannum Sands is a sleepy seaside town only 20 minutes drive from Gladstone Port. Tannum itself has everything you need for a good holiday - number one is the Surf Club, right on the beach and serving great food and a fabulous atmosphere, the kids can play safely on the grass while you watch from balcony above. There's also a great local cafe 'Say Espresso', a child friendly pub and the Tapas Bar, which I also recommend for dining out. We also have Supermarkets, Butchers, Chemists, Medical Centres, Gyms, Yoga, etc. The main beach is patrolled during the warmer months and school holidays; though being Central Queensland it is warm most of the year, generally just need a cardigan for the evenings. From March to December the Beach Arts & Music Markets are held at the beach on the first Saturday of each month, with over 90 stalls and great food and music. Paddle boarding and kayaking is very popular, as is cycling (we have two good bikes and helmets here for you to use should you feel energetic) - there is over 20 km of cycle or walking track directly outside our back gate.
And then there's fishing! The boat ramp is great, my husband is a keen fisherman so I'm sure if you ask nicely you'll be able to pry a few fishing marks from him. I'd say he could be persuaded to take you out-wide fishing, it would't take much arm twisting! We also have a tinny which you could use (obviously if you are experienced and hold a current boat licence).
Everywhere is walkable here in Tannum, or you could cycle. Gladstone is only a 20 minute drive away, and the local buses can take you there and back too. The Yacht Club is a great spot there, right on the water, great for all the family. The Light Box is also a good spot, but more suited for adults, great cocktails!
