The Subtropical paradise of Tamborine Mountain rises 600 metres above the Gold Coast. Just 30 minutes' drive to some Australia's best beaches. A mere hour to restaurants, entertainment facilities and galleries of Brisbane City.
Tamborine Mountain enjoys the sublime climate of South East Queensland without the summer humidity of the low lands. Statistically it is on average several degrees cooler in Summer than on the Gold Coast.
Once entirely covered in towering rainforest and subsequently lush dairy farms, the area has preserved several important National Parks with extensive walks and lookouts. The village centres support many restaurants, cafes, antique and craft shops in addition to the vineyards, orchards and gardens that flourish in the deep, rich, red volcanic soils. Hide away in tranquil seclusion and never leave the mountain or enjoy the attractions, shopping options and theme parks of the Gold Coast within 40 minutes' drive.
We stress: SKYhouse is NOT to be used as a party house. Only those guests specifically booked may stay. SKYhouse is a quiet retreat. If this condition is abused we reserve the right to charge a fee.

The 5 saw-tooth pavilions with large clerestories to the north allow solar winter heating and light into all rooms, whilst the 2 inch thick travertine stone floors act as an internal heat tank collecting winter sunlight and releasing it during the evening.
This takes into account elevation, views and climate. Passive heating and cooling features, Solar hot water & electricity panels provide the bulk of power. All this, whilst retaining a luxuriant ambiance. Settle in on the vast leather sofa whilst warming yourself by the log-fire.

SKY is reliant on Tamborine Mountain's pure rainwater, collected in tanks.

As waste water is treated on-site by way of an Enviro-cycle system, we ask that you please do not place any rubbish or bleach products in the toilets or into any plumbing fixture.

Five identical and tapered, saw tooth pavilions are positioned with northern clerestories that allow solar passive winter heating and lighting to all rooms while maximising the expansive views to the east.
Fifty millimetre thick travertine stone floor paving provides an internal heat sink, collecting winter sun during the day to release into the interiors at night.
Overhangs provide protection during the summer months with high louvres also allowing the control of ventilation in all weather conditions. Prefabricated and pre finished metal and polystyrene sandwich panels are bolted to the lightweight structural steel skeleton to provide highly insulated and simply installed floors and roofs.
Timber joinery with low-emissive glass on the north east, fully opens to the view while providing a 30 greater insulation than similar single glazing. Multi-cell poly carbonate sheeting to the clerestories and raked in fills is also used to provide natural light and winter sun with a high level of insulation. Solar hot water, a 1kw solar array, gas appliances, and concealed low energy lighting to all areas have also been installed to minimise long term power consumption.
The 33000 litre water tank provides structural support for the large cantilevered outdoor living area above. A 5000 litre header tank at the rear of the steep site provides a gravity fed water supply. Wastewater is treated and dispersed onsite by a biolytic worm filter.
Applied finishes are minimal and where possible natural and untreated. The rear courtyard is terraced.
