Nestled in sheltered Zelma Bay, the shallow beach is a popular swimming destination although it is not patrolled. It is fringed by a large grassy recreational area, complete with public toilets, picnic tables and a children's playground.
With nearby reefs, islands and creeks, fishing is a plentiful either by boat or straight off the beach near the creek mouth. There are boat ramps on both sides of Cabbage Tree Creek with the Grasstree Beach boat ramp.

"The Den" - downstairs
"The Den" is located beachfront and a perfect example of old beach shack charm renovated to modern appeal. Recent renovations have left the 2 bedroom guest houses with a clean modern feel whilst maintaining the charm of those original beach houses which populated Grasstree Beach in the 60's. Both are fully self contained and have access to a laundry. There is carports available for boats and cars that can fit underneath and also plenty of driveway to park up boats and a concreted area available to wash down boats. Grasstree Beach has an enviable reputation for a quiet beach where listening the waves is a pastime for those sitting on the deck at night. Both units are fully air-conditioned and have ceiling fans to help in summer and reverse cycle aircon available to heat during winter months when the occasional cold snap occurs. Modern kitchens and bathrooms with an open plan layout so families can enjoy time together regardless whether you are in the kitchen, dining table, lounge all while taking in a view of the ocean through your front windows.
Situated central on the beachfront the guest houses are literally within a stone's throw of the beach and playground. The boat ramp only recently underwent major upgrades to provide a boat launching area within minutes from the house and all importantly you don't have to leave home to see whether the weather is good. Lounge rooms and master bedrooms look directly out across the lawns to the beach and there is hardly a spot in the guest houses that you can not see the ocean and much of the picturesque crescent shaped Zelma bay.
For those familiar with Grasstree Beach they will understand its popularity as the playground fills on the weekends with families that enjoy the facilities. These within 50m of the guest houses and able to watch the kids there while sitting out front with a drink. At night the crowds dissipate and Grasstree takes on its traditional beachfront appeal as any traffic gives way to the tranquility of the night with the sound of the occasional bird calling and waves crashing on the shores. Gentle breezes create nights where a window open on the main bedroom is greeted by sea air and the sound of the ocean.
Fishing and fun for the kids
Children are easy to entertain with the beach throwing up endless options to get out. The difficulty being the task of keeping up with them as Grasstree has a lot of beach and park area to enjoy and you will regularly see parents out with kids riding their bikes around the Esplanade. The playground is a hit with the younger ones and if you get out and about for a walk and a bit of exploring you can find that there is many quiet bays that exist to the north of Grasstree with a maze of tracks to walk around. The south end of Grasstree is flanked by the creek which is an easy way to amuse children if it involves a bit of fishing or throwing a cast net for some prawns which are regularly found at certain times of the year.
The summer months may bring the warmer weather but with that comes the beach culture and all that it has to offer. Guest houses have air conditioning in all rooms which can come in handy for those days where the refuge from the heat is needed in the middle of the day. The creek has loads of accessible spots to fish, boats can access the calmer waters of Zelma bay, nearby bays and Victor Island via the boat ramp with the exception of low tide. For the more adventurous when the weather is permitting there is off shore options that include the islands that sit out from Sarina such as Irving, Cullen and Prudhoe. Closer to Grasstree there is many rocky outcrops and reef areas which often produce the better fish if you are willing to spend time sounding them out. Mackerel run off Sarina at select times of the year and you will be able to see them thrashing through the baitfish as them come right into Zelma bay, the leads, and the rocks on the northern side of the bay.
