Moreton Island, one of natures undisturbed wonders, is a 17000 ha naturally formed sand island situated in the Moreton Bay Marine Park 35km from Brisbane, Australia. Approx 95 of Moreton Island is National Park and it is home to a diverse range of wildlife and vegetation as well as being very popular destination for nature based recreational pursuits.

Like other sand islands in south-east Queensland, Moreton Island was formed as a result of sand movements caused by winds and waves and sea level change over thousands of years. The island is approximately 38km long and 10km at its widest point and appears to this day much the same as it did thousands of years ago.

Moreton’s ocean beach stretches over 40km long and with the untouched white sandy beach, coastal dunes and crystal clear blue water; it is one of the most scenic places on the island. The waters and many reefs surrounding Moreton Island are always clean, and usually crystal clear. This clear water allows visitors to experience the spectacular array of sea life that uses the islands coastline as their playground.

From the Cape Moreton lighthouse you can spot dolphins, whales in season, manta rays, dugongs, turtles and numerous types of fish swimming in this natural, crystal clear paradise. Swimmers can enjoy a dip from any of the beaches, but Honeymoon bay or the western beaches are favourite sheltered spots to enjoy the waters.

Moreton Island is also home to some of the most beautiful freshwater lakes, coloured sands, rugged cliffs, sand hills and also the largest sand dune in the world, Mt Tempest. An untouched paradise, Moreton Island is the perfect destination for a holiday, weekend getaway or one-day island adventure.

As Moreton Island is all sand and the tracks are all sand, the only vehicles that can operate on the Island are 4WD.

The "MiCat" is the only vehicle Ferry operating between Brisbane and Moreton Island so early bookings are essential. The "MiCat" departs from 14 Howard Smith Drive, Lytton at the Port of Brisbane and lands at the Tangalooma Wrecks on the western side of the Island.

If you will not be bringing a 4WD vehicle to the Island you will need to catch the Tangalooma Passenger Launch which departs from Holt Street Wharf, Pinkenba and travels to the Tangalooma Resort Jetty at least twice daily. Adult return fares are currently $80 and children aged 3 to 14 years inclusive are $45 return. Bookings are essential.

The Resort mini bus can be booked to take your guests and luggage from the Jetty to your Tangalooma Hilltop House accommodation. The driver is to be paid $15 cash at the time of the trip. The charge is per trip and not per person. Please let the Agent know if you will require a mini bus transfer if you are arriving on the Tangalooma passenger launch and you will be sent details of how to book the mini bus transfer for your arrival and departure. PLEASE NOTE: The Resort Mini Bus does not collect guests from the MiCat Ferry Landing Point – only the Resort Jetty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic family getaway We just returned yesterday from a week at Tangalooma Hilltop Haven, We had such a great time we were two families and this house is just the perfect size. The views were magical especially for afternoon drinks on the large deck followed by a BBQ. You can see the beach, wreck and Brisbane skyline. We hired the Golf buggy which was a fantastic way to get down to the Tangalooma resort. Paul and Pam were great with the booking and helpful during our stay.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very nice house. We had a beautiful 10 days holidays at Tangalooma Hilltop. Just a couple of things to have in consideration, the brown sofa in the main living area was unusable due to heavy soiling and wear, we had to cover it to be able to sit on it, also the DVD player will not allow a full movie to be watched (need to be replaced) and the sink on the top bathroom was blocked since we arrived. Other than that, all was good, the views magnificent! Hoping next time those thing can be upgraded and replaced.
