The Montville-Maleny district is well known as a weekend getaway for Brisbane residents, blessed as it is by natural beauty, amazing views, flowing creeks, rainforests and waterfalls, with close proximity to the stunning Sunshine Coast beaches. Artists abound in the hinterland area, evidenced by numerous galleries and the local artwork to be found on the walls of the many local cafes and gift stores.
Within 10 minutes drive you will find a wide range of restaurants, including Thai, Indian, Seafood, Nepalese and others. Dining options range from the inexpensive to the sublime with a price tag to match (Spicers, The Cellar, Secrets, The Terrace and others). Or you might prefer to eat in and settle into the magnificence of the property and views, walk to the creek, stroll to Chenrezig, marvel at the abundance of peace and beauty.
You will need a car as public transport is somewhat sparse. Walking shoes or runners and rain gear recommended if you plan to explore the property. Good cell phone reception from all over the property.
Other Things to Note
The retreat space was once the central feature of a weekend retreat centre that hosted meditation, yoga and other personal development seminars and workshops. Some buildings in the centre were damaged in flooding rains in 2010 causing the closure of the business, but leaving intact the main meeting space, now converted into a luxurious retreat for lovers of all kinds (LGBT and bi-gender friendly) or individuals wanting privacy, peace and beauty in abundance.
The other unique quality of the property is that the Dalai Lama visited it briefly in 2011 when his helicopter landed in the east paddock to deliver him to the opening ceremony for the Enlightenment Gardens. Oddly, weeds do not grow where the helicopter landed, not in the way they do all around. Go figure!
