This holiday destination is set just under 100 kilometres north of Brisbane and is located on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. Sample Local Cuisine
Known around the world, Mooloolaba prawns make their way onto the menu in many of the fine restaurants in town. In fact, much of the seafood the chef's use is local and caught right in the Spit area. In addition, the area's subtropical climate allows an abundance of produce to grow right in and around Mooloolaba; these farm-fresh ingredients also grace the menus at the fine restaurants.
For a different type of dining experience, head outside! The Esplanade offers a vast selection of restaurants, many with outdoor eating options, which allows you to take in the ocean ambiance as you eat. International restaurants - Chinese, Lebanese, Greek, etc. - are scattered throughout town. Many of these establishments offer take-away menus, so get your food to-go, and have a picnic on or near the beach.
Grabbing your own fresh ingredients and concocting a meal for yourself and your guests is another way to get in touch with Mooloolaba's food scene. Each Friday, the wharf hosts a farmers market filled with local delicacies and ingredients right from the farm. If you are still in need of seafood after your farmer's market excursion, cast a line in the Spit area; visitors are more than welcome to fish for their own seafood.
The beaches in Mooloolaba are extremely safe and feature gorgeous white sand. Mooloolaba Beach is the perfect destination for families, with its protected waters and calm rock pools for children to splash about in. This beach has two patrol stations and is extremely easy to park at. A little further out into the water, fun activities such as jet skiing, sailing, wind surfing, diving and snorkeling are available to visitors. If you prefer fresh water, head over to Mooloolaba River for fishing, swimming, boating. Picnic areas are available in both locations, as are scenic views and plenty of open space on the shore for games.
Hit the TownÃs Attractions
One of the most popular places in Mooloolaba is Underwater World SEA LIFE. This location offers exciting exhibits of sea life from around the world, there are multiple informative shows and guests have the opportunity to touch some of the animals. Snorkeling with sharks is another fun activity at Underwater World. Point Cartwright is another must-see in Mooloolaba. This is a great place for a sunset picnic and offers spectacular views over all of the surrounding waterways. Dogs are welcome at Point Cartwright. Fun stops just outside of Mooloolaba include the Ginger Factory and the Australia Zoo, which is home to many of Australia's native species.
Explore the Shopping Districts
Along Mooloolaba's Esplanade, you have access to a variety of retail establishments. Choose from niche stores, such as swimwear or apparel, or spend the day perusing all of the offerings. Over on First Avenue, there many upscale stores offering top-notch products, home decor and more, and the Wharf also features an eclectic business community. For conveniences and everything you need for a comfortable holiday, head over to the stores on Brisbane Road. The shopping options in Mooloolaba are vast and diverse and provide something for every need and want.
When to Visit Mooloolaba
Mooloolaba's climate features distinct seasons, though the temperatures are more than comfortable throughout the year. The sub-tropic/Mediterranean climate means that even the cooler months require little more than a long-sleeved shirt. There is no bad time to visit this diverse paradise.
