This house has been lovingly and artistically constructed incorporating many elements that have been inspired by the renowned Australian architect Guilford Bell. Located within walking distance to Noosa Junction and a stroll over the hill to Hastings Street Main Beach, this property will challenge you not the leave. Six beds in total 1 King, 2 Queens, 4 Singles which sleeps 10 guests. There are chooks to collect fresh eggs from each day and the tomatoes are sweet, fresh from the garden. The private tennis court is a great space with the deck overlooking the playmakers. The pool leads off this deck and the kids will be in eye view while the BBQ is enjoyed. Kijiji cleverly combines natural, sustainable and healthy themes with the utmost of style, elegance and sophistication.

Staying in Kijiji is akin to living within a natural work of art. Kijiji represents a unique fusion of rambling Australian country homestead, natural eco earthiness and architectural sophistication. The beauty of the natural and recycled timber and stone surfaces, the simplicity of the whitewashed brick walls, alongside with the artistry and craftsmanship of the rooves and joinery all contribute to Kijiji’s timeless, simple, natural elegance. Kijiji could be described as an eclectic and effective blend of African, Mediterranean, Balinese, Fijian, and Australian rural building styles. Spending time in this magical space will remind you of holidays around the world.

Many elements of the house have been inspired by the work of the renowned Australian early modernist architect Guilford Bell . Bell valued the relationship between land and architecture and sought to combine the two, and to harmonise the flow of the environment throughout a house through an integrated sequence of interior and exterior spaces. He aspired to create spaces that were serene and private while still allowing the boundary of the inner and outer spaces to feel ambiguous.

Consistent with many of Bell’s designs, Kijiji is a ‘walled courtyard house’ that has integrated interior and outdoor spaces. Kijiji’s typically understated exterior and front entry give nothing away of the spectacular house inside. The front gate represents the front door, and the external natural spaces are just as much considered a ‘room’ of the house as the internal ones. The house itself comprises separate living / family sleeping and guest pavilions connected by gallery halls and wide covered walkways. Each new space is a surprise and a delight. The beautiful bespoke rosewood glass and screen doors recess completely into the walls so that there is a seamless transition between the garden and indoor spaces. Another eyecatching element of the design are the beautiful exposed oiled ceiling beams which are expressed internally and continue to exit externally. The house design will have you enthralled for hours as you sit and appreciate the quiet serene beauty of the space and take in the house’s many bespoke and individual details.

Kijiji cleverly combines both functionality, health and beauty. When designing and building Kijiji, one of the primary mandates was to build a sustainable healthy home free of the standard chemical toxins that are ubiquitous in todays built environment, as well as limiting the impact of Electromagnetic radiation and providing a healthy retreat from our chemical ridden environment. In addition, the purpose of the house is to be as self sustaining as possible within a highly urban environment.

Rather than formal gardens, a permaculture vegetable garden graces the large central courtyard, reminding us of the fundamental importance of healthy food in our lives. The surrounding gardens incorporate edible and indigenous plants. There is a chicken coop at the back of the house, built along the same lines. The 4 chickens who live on this property will provide you with organic eggs for your breakfasts during your stay.

Kijiji offers you a very rare opportunity to escape the usual environmental chemicals that are ubiquitous in today’s home, hotel and built up environments, and instead to experience and appreciate the beauty of natural materials. No chemical sealants have been used on any of the beautiful natural stone finishes and untreated hardwood timbers. All timbers are sustainably sourced or recycled. The plain brick walls are painted with Rockcote white wash paint. No fire retardants, pesticides, toxic glues have been used in the main build. A lot of the furniture has also been designed and constructed according to the same principles. In the external and garage areas, extra low VOC materials have been used.

The building closely adheres to the lay of the land to ensure grounding is achieved throughout the house. Natural stone floors also provide a strong earthing effect. Copper insect screens are used to create external verandah spaces and walkways that surround the sleeping areas allowing you to sleep at night with the doors wide open, so that you can enjoy the natural breezes and be closely connected to the surrounding trees, while at the same time reducing electromagnetic radiation and wifi penetration, to improve your quality of sleep. The thickness of the double brick walls also limits electromagnetic penetration to provide a healthier internal environment, particularly when you sleep at night. Needless to say, Wifi is not a strong point in this house however the internet is easily accessible via ethernet connections at various strategic points.

The opportunity to stay in this home is indeed a special experience. Located in the quiet and private Banksia Avenue, part of the prestigious Settlers Cove precinct, you enjoy the serenity of being surrounded by native bushland while still being close to every point in Noosa, and within an easy 5 minute walk to cafes, shops and restaurants. The convenience of the location won't disappoint you. That is, if you decide to leave the property.

Things to entice you to completely relax and spend the day at home include the stunning Enviroswim swimming pool and attached spa clad in natural javanese stone tiles. It is a real pleasure to swim in, with very little chlorine and other chemicals ever being added. The very spacious private tennis court and basketball hoop provides great entertainment for all ages. The lights allow you to also enjoy tennis and outdoor activities in the cool of the early evening. A large wooden entertaining deck and outdoor kitchen with a builtin covered BBQ and sink overlooks the court and the pool. With these facilities right on hand, it may prove difficult to leave for the hustle and bustle of Hastings Street and Noosa Main Beach which are a stroll over the Noosa hill.

It really is a bonus knowing that if you really don’t fancy leaving the front door, you can easily while away your time in the pool, on the tennis court or relaxing with a good book enjoying the cool of the shade under the wide eaves. And if you fancy a breakfast coffee, need to stock up on grocery provisions, or catching an afternoon movie, you don’t even need to hop in the car. Noosa Junction shopping and restaurant precinct and its many cafes, restaurants, the cinema, post office and 2 major supermarkets are all just an easy walk down the road or less than a minute’s drive.

Kijiji boasts spacious open bedrooms. There is 2 level bedroom wing on the western aspect of the property surrounded by trees. There are three smaller bedrooms on the lowest level that share a double sink bathroom and a separate lavatory and bidet. The spacious King master suite on the upper level boasts a large private ensuite, with toilet and bidet, shower and a stunning bathtub overlooking the elevated bushland view. The 5th bedroom is located in the East pavilion, immediately adjoining the pool and barbecue entertaining deck, and connected to the house by a wide covered walkway, is a separate private space with its own ensuite.

Note that there is also a separately rented self contained Studio apartment located above the garage, with its own private entrance and facilities, which can accommodate 2 people. This can be rented in addition to the main house, should extra rooms be required so please make inquiries to ensure that you can rent both spaces together.
