History of the Cottage
In memory of one of our early settlers, the cottage is named after Augusta Florence Alford who owned the cottage from 1901 to 1920. Her husband was Henry King Alford, whose family were among the early settlers to the area.
The first time that the name 'Toowoomba' appeared on a public document was when it was written on Henry's baptismal certificate at the first Church of England service held on August 29th, 1852. It was Henry's mother who gave the future city of Toowoomba its name. Henry had various pastoral interests and was elected Mayor of Toowoomba in 1911 and 1912.
This cottage retains its historic charm with high ceilings and double brick walls. If you wish to immerse yourself in historic charm, then this is the place to stay.
