Enjoy uninterrupted and inspiring views of Kangaroo Island from the open-plan living and dining room. Sit on the front verandah decking and watch the ferry cross to Kangaroo Island. Listen to and enjoy the rich native bird life: rosellas, blue wrens, wedge tail eagles. Be utterly relaxed as stunning sunsets enliven the breathtaking panorama. Dream and float with the island so amazingly close, just across the changing ocean views of the Backstairs Passage. This totally serene and delightful retreat has all modern conveniences, and is furnished in comfortable mid-twentieth century and contemporary style, decorated with original artworks. Conveniences include a very easy-to-use and completely modern galley kitchen with microwave and oven; a large (42inch) flat-screen HD (LCD) TV with extensive (and free) DVD in-house library that ranges from drama, SciFi, Musicals, documentary and other (please note: no free-to-air TV, but there is Free Internet); washing machine; and off-street parking. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The second bedroom has a convertible sofa-lounge/bed: the two bedrooms each sleep 2 couples comfortably (maximum 4 adults, or two adults and 1-2 children).
Ithaka is NOT your usual country weekend retreat: it is located in the quietest part of a tiny, very quiet small township. unique,and is stylish and very comfortable. It is the perfect place to just relax and enjoy the ever-changing views across the sea to Kangaroo Island, or take walks round the township, seacliffs, or the nearby bushland hills. Activities: stroll into the village (very small and surrounds a conservation bushland park which backs onto Ithaka Cottage); enjoy nearby bush or stroll along dramatic cliff coastal walks; explore the nearby fascinating Heritage Talisker Silver Mines (best preserved 19th Century Cornish mining ruins in Australia), and its surrounding Conservation Park; delight at the abundant native bird and wildlife (many kangaroos); swim in the pristine waters of nearby Morgans Beach; go fishing along the coast or from the nearby ferry warf; walk down and watch the regular Island ferry landings and departures; sit and read a book, watch a movie....or just luxuriate and re-charge in the utterly tranquil ambience. Spectacular uninterrupted coastal sea and island views and incredible sunsets; bushland walking (it is the start of the famous Hans Heysen Trail); fantastic fishing; sights include unique heritage ruins of the nearby Talisker Silver Mines and Conservation Park; Deep Creek National Park; rich native bird and wildlife; enjoy nearby beaches of white sand and pristine waters which are practically deserted.
