A little bit of history: Ballantrae Cottage takes its name the Scottish town of Ballantrae, and displayed in the home are photographs of the old town in Scotland. Located in "Little Scotland" in Goolwa there is an obvious historical link. The town is the setting for the novel The Master of Ballantrae by Robert Louis Stevenson. The name probably comes from the Scottish Gaelic Baile na TrĖ†gha, meaning the "town by the beach". Ballantrae has a Primary school. The beach consists of shingle and sand and offers views of Ailsa Craig, the Arran and Kintyre.
