THE CLOSEST WALK TO THE BEACH...
StormySky BeachHouse is a solid rendered, light and spacious character cottage literally 100 steps from the beach. It is tucked into a secluded bush setting, so that whilst one hears the waves crashing on the beach, there is protection from the elements.
The house will appeal to people wanting accommodation designed for a nature based holiday experience, yet still providing all the comforts required to have a relaxed and enjoyable time.
StormySky has three bedrooms with one queen, one double and two single beds, so can sleep six people comfortably. There is a fully equipped kitchen so that one can take advantage of any locally bought specialty Kangaroo Island produce and adjacent to the living area is a great outdoor patio with BBQ. The lounge has a cosy wood fire for those cool nights, a TV, stereo, books and games, and there are overhead fans in the living area and main bedroom. The laundry has a washing machine, but please be mindful that the house is entirely run on rainwater, so minimal water consumption is appreciated.
Please advise if you are planning to bring your pet KI council must also be advised before coming to KI. There is a $50 cleaning fee if you bring your pet; maximum 2 dogs.
Those 100 steps or so from StormySky BeachHouse brings you to the middle of the expansive Vivonne Bay beach with its captivating turquoise water. The Eleanor and Harriet Rivers, with their calm water, are both great walks from here. The Harriet is suitable for boating, fishing and safe swimming for the kids and there is a playground on the western side of the river. Further around, near Castle Rock and the jetty there is good snorkeling. The jetty of course is a great place to try your hand at catching dinner.
Wildlife abounds, with wallabies, possums and goannas seen regularly near the house. Little Penguins can sometimes be sighted after dark near the jetty and there is the odd fur Seal sighting and in the winter months Southern Right Whales. Birds are ubiquitous and are seen in abundance both in the bush and on the sea shore. Be sure to bring your binoculars.
The local shop when it is open stocks basic supplies, makes the best whiting burger and one can usually hire gear such kayaks, canoes, sandboards and surfboards.
The local golf course is an experience. And the coastline is stunning; one can walk along the beach for miles in either direction.
Vivonne Bay is ideally placed to access all of the major attractions on the Island. Rustic Blue Gallery and the Marron Farm are close, as are Little Sahara sand boarding and Raptor Domain. Flinders Chase for Admirals Arch and the Remarkable Rocks, Seal Bay, Hanson Bay and Kelly Hill Caves are all within a half hour drive.
