Don’t forget I’m a naturally sustainable house and there are certain things you can’t do that you would normally do at home. Please read the visitors book on arrival.
Thank you for reading these instructions to ensure you have a trouble-free stay ☺
1.What you need to bring:
All food and drinks required for your stay don’t forget we are in a fruit-fly free exclusion zone – any fruit or veggies you bring will need to come with receipt from your grocer – fines apply
Sunscreen, insect repellent
2.How to find me:
Click on this link and head for Mallyons on the Murray – I am next door
3.Water – all water to house is rainwater and suitable for drinking but when you arrive run taps to remove any stale water. The pump by the annexe door supplies this water from the large tank. Although this tank has good capacity, short showers are advised. Flush toilet on arrival and departure to clear pipes and leave toilet lid down.
4.Power – all power comes from solar panels except the hot water system and oven/stove which uses gas. My solar system is reasonably old and cannot handle appliances that have a big draw like toasters, hair dryers, hair straighteners and irons. If you use one of these it can cause a very costly breakdown in the system, you will lose all power immediately and will need to call out Nick next door. You can recharge phones, computers etc with no problem and always turn off powerpoints when not in use. The generator will need to be turned on for the air-conditioner – see 5.
Please note there will be a call-out charge of $50 if use of banned appliances causes shuts down to the power.
5.Air-Conditioner –Please contact Nick if you require the air conditioner. Open windows in all air-conditioned rooms as this is an evaporative system that needs airflow. The air conditioner will run for approx. 4 hours on a tank of diesel. We ask that you liaise with Nick for more diesel if required. First tank of diesel will be included in hire cost but additional charges may apply for further tanks.
6.Oven/Stove – use matches/gas lighter if auto lighter fails. Instruction book in house manual if needed. Always use the guard rail in saucepan drawer when grilling. Use BBQ in preference to grill when possible. Toaster is a wire gadget in the pantry that sits on the stove top.
7.Fireplace –a bucket of wood will be provided for each night. Please leave the vent closed when you leave.
8.Shower – so that the flow of hot water is continuous, turn on light and fan and turn hot water to full before adding cold. This will keep the inverter steady and therefore the flow of electricity.
9. Absolutely no smoking in the house.
10. Pets are allowed on request but may incur an additional $40 cleaning fee. Please clean up after your pets. Pets need to be under control at all times. No free unwatched roaming due to farm animals and sheep in the area.
11. Kayak Hire can be arranged by calling Nick to get life-jackets, kayaks and paddles to the river. Cost of hire is $50/stay for one $100/stay for two kayaks.
The Murray River carries it’s own risks and any activity on the water is at your own risk.
12. Hot Weather – if you are coming at a time of predicted hot weather it’s a good idea to bring an esky for your drinks so you are not opening the fridge constantly.
13. All bedding and towels are provided. There is a supply of old towels in the laundry to be used if coming up muddy from the river. Please DO NOT use the good towels to remove mud as it stains.
Nick & Rita – co- owners and neighbors can be found at the house just a short walk along the dirt road called “Mallyon’s on the Murray”. You may also meet GILBERT goat who thinks he’s a dog.
