Welcome to Auld Reekie on The Bay. The two bedroom holiday shack is perched on the edge of Ansons Bay, in Tasmania's Bay of Fires Conservation Area. Auld Reekie literally means 'old smokey' and is a British nickname for Edinburgh, Scotland. It's a long way from Scotland, and there's nothing smokey about Ansons Bay. Actually the air is fresh and pure and blows cool from the Southern Ocean. The original owners named the property, so we decided to honour the shack with it's name as per the property deed.
Surrounded by Mt William National Park, the small hamlet that time forgot, takes you back to the old days where everything moves at a slower pace and lazy days are filled with the simple pleasures of the great outdoors. Explore the powdery white sands and cobalt seas of picture-postcard beaches, which are a 15 to 20-minute drive away, or stay close to home and launch a kayak or BYOB bring your own boat to enjoy the beauty of Ansons Bay.
There's nothing flash about Auld Reekie. The basic accommodation is ideal for a group of buddies or a couple who are here to make the most of the fishing and surrounds, or enjoy a sunset drink around the fire pit. It also acts as a good base to explore the north east of Tassie.
