Manuka Surf Shack is set off the grid in the unique wilderness location of Trial Harbour on the wild west coast of Tasmania. Trial Harbour is a tiny township of around 30 shacks. If you want a unique Tasmanian Wilderness experience then this is it. Step out of the shack and you have access to world class surfing, fishing, diving, mountain bike riding and bush walks. If you are into flora and fauna you can spend your days photographing birds, native animals and rare orchids. At night sit around a fire inside or out and listen to the pounding surf crash against the rocks and beach.
It is IMPORTANT that guests understand that Manuka Surf Shack is off the grid. The tiny township of Trial Harbour is not connected to the grid. There is no TV, INTERNET or MOBILE COVERAGE in the shack. There are no power outlets to charge your phone or laptop etc. We run a simple solar 12 volt power system. There are lights in all the rooms but not as bright as you would be used to. We could put in big battery banks and an inverter but then it would be too complicated for most people to use. Occasionally people stay at Manuka wanting a unique experience in an isolated spot but then complain when they don't have a 240 volt power supply. We suggest you bring your own charger in your car or if you want 240 volt power you would be better to stay in Zeehan or Strahan. This is not a pretend wilderness experience it is the real deal. The closest shop is 25 minutes away, there are no restaurants close by. The last 15 minutes of the drive into Trial Harbour is not sealed but you do not need a four wheel drive. The shack is warm, clean, spacious and has everything you need for a great stay.
