‘Tamrock’ is a shack and residence off the grid at Trial Harbour on the rugged West Coast of Tasmania. Trial Harbour has recently won an Award for the Tidiest Town of less than 500 residents and also for its clean beach environment. Our Progress Association won an award too for Community Events and Fund Raising as did our History Room for continual heritage preservation. Our Community will welcome you and enhance your stay as will your host. As a guest you will have full use of the ‘Original Shack’ the enclosed garage and the upstairs relaxation area.
Trial Harbour offers the best in Surfing, Fishing (Fresh & Sea), Diving, Walking, Fossicking, Mountain biking, Native Forna, Flora, Birdwatching and generally doing nothing but watch the world go by; sunsets, milk way skies and wild seas in the warm and cosy Tamrock.
‘Tamrock’ offers a bit of the old and new in accommodation, parts of the ‘Original Shack’ come from the old Teepookana School House which is on the West Coast Wilderness Railway Line. An old slow combustion stove warms the cosy retreat. The ‘New’ has both a down stairs rumpus room and living room upstairs all built to withstand The Roaring 40’s, plus perhaps the best view in Trial Harbour.
Tamrock is a comfortable, warm and well equipped shack, situated in the small community of Trial Harbour. It is a minutes’ walk from the beach. At night you hear powerful waves hitting the coast. The fishing and diving is exceptional, the waves can be intimidating so are not for the beginner. The Fauna and Flora are unique and the Coast line rugged. In the morning you can wake up to the sounds of the Grey Shrike-Thrush, Olive Whistler, Silver Eyes, Spotted Pardalotes, Superb Fairy Wrens and Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos. During the day we witness flights of our White Bellied – Sea Eagle. The beach and foreshore are home to Pied Oyster Catchers, Pacific Gulls, Hooded Plovers and Australian Pied Cormorant. We are on the migratory path of the Orange Bellied Parrot, as it travels between South West Tasmania and Coastal Victoria and South Australia. There are many Native animals in close proximity to your accommodation, including Tasmanian Devils, Brushtail Possums, Pademelons’ (Small Fat Wallabies), Bennets Wallabies, Wombats and our many own micro Bats. The Flora includes Native Pigface, Melaleuca (many types), Tasmanian Waratah, Blandfordia (Christmas Bells), Myrtle Rain Forest, Coastal Health, Orchids and Correas. There is little creek nearby that ideal for children to fish in. Our grandkids love it and spend many hours catching and gently releasing the ‘tiddlies’ (Native galaxis) into the creek. Many visitors to Trial Harbour comment on the wilderness of our coast line and its similarity to the coasts of Scotland and Ireland.
The Host will welcome you into the cosy and well equipped ‘Tamrock’ and assist you when required. You are welcome to use the whole shack apart from the upstairs bedroom, bathroom and study. The “Old Shack” has a gas fridge, gas stove, and gas heater and gas hot water which can also be heated via the slow combustion stove. Linen and Towels are supplied. There is a Barbecue on the upstairs deck and one outside downstairs which you are free to use.
Because ‘Tamrock’ is off grid power usage must be respected – high wattage electrical goods will not work e.g. (hair dryers) - your host can set up an alternative power source if required.
