Views, garden, peaceful ambience, spa bath, Wi-Fi and local calls a place to relax and enjoy northern Tasmania
We fell in love with Gorge Cottage at first sight. Her original features and warmth charmed us. The location was perfect - close to the magnificent Cataract gorge and overlooking the Tamar River and Launceston. The popular Trevallyn Grocer and Cafe is only a few doors down, where an array of gourmet products is on offer and you can also enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch. There is also a post office, newsagent, doctor's surgery and bakery
Her Art Deco leadlight windows and doors, baltic floors and fireplaces provided a great foundation to work with in our renovations. Our objective was to create a warm, comfortable and aesthetically beautiful environment which would invite our guests to relax and have a memorable stay.
Gorge Cottage has three bedroomstwo queen, one bunk with double on bottom, single on top sleeping up to 7 with plenty of living space and would be perfect for honeymooners, couples, group of friends or families. The house is welcoming and makes a great base for exploring the surrounding areas.
The configuration of the house starts with a lovely enclosed veranda where you can sit and enjoy your morning cuppa whilst watching the mist over the river with the stunning background of the hills beyond. In the evening the scenery is transformed into a sparkling christmas tree of lights. The formal lounge with its electric flame heater is so cosy and romantic, it invites you to curl up on the couch. The family room is beautifully set up to watch the T.V., listen to music or just relax with a glass of local red with its own electric flame effect fire. We have available a great range of CD's and DVD's for your enjoyment. Local calls and internet NBN with wi-fi are included.
The dining room has a large table, perfect for gathering around and next to the large gourmet kitchen, which is fitted with stainless steel appliances including full size SS Fridge and everything you need to cook up a storm.
The first and second bedrooms have queen size beds and fireplaces not used and the third bedroom has a bunk with double and single bed. There are cupboards in all the bedrooms. Quality linen and Egyptian cotton towels are provided for your enjoyment and comfort.
The study has a computer desk and great vista.
The bathroom is well appointed with a spa bath to relax in. The toilet is in a separate powder room and the laundry is fully equipped.
Importantly for Trevallyn, we believe we have achieved a great combination of heating and cooling recognising that everything has to be electric In addition to the two electric fires which of course give off local heat 2 to 3 Kws in the family room there is a very large ceiling air-conditioner and a seperate air circulating system. The latter circulates air throughout the house from the family room and in the colder times also takes any heat available from the roof space. The concept is to provide a means of climate control throughout the house. In addition, for heating there are panel heaters in various positions for additional heat if preferred on a room by room basis. In early 2018 we have installed ceiling fans in both the front veranda and study area to provide additional cooling on those occasional very hot days in these fully glassed areas. There is a natural draught of course also available from the windows, as the house is on a hill.
The large back yard is delightful with a big deck and gazebo overlooking the various trees, including a large lemon tree and a small herb garden, which you are welcome to help yourself to. There is a full outdoor setting, patio heater and a BBQ for your convenience.
We hope that you will enjoy your stay at Gorge Cottage as much as we have creating her.
