If you’re looking for a totally secluded and relaxing getaway, then Liffey Mountain Retreat will not disappoint. The place for leaving it all behind.
We were fortunate to be selected as the Tasmanian Finalist in the "Romance" category in the Stayz Holiday Accommodation Awards 2017.
At Liffey Mountain Retreat, the experience begins when you turn off the highway, meandering through farmland and country townships that usher you to the foothills of the Great Western Tiers. A short ascent through bush on a well maintained 1km private gravel road and, there it is.
"WOW" will be the first word that slips from your lips when you arrive. You will feel all those everyday tensions drain from your veins. You’ll be impressed by the modern architecture and the expansive rooms, but you’ll be captivated by the view of Dry’s Bluff and the front row seat you have to that vista for the duration of your stay. The rugged crags reach up into the ether and, as if nature hadn’t come up trumps with this display already, three wedge tailed eagles are residents of the mountain and are frequently seen wheeling majestic arcs in the sky.
The retreat itself was built in 2010 by the current owners who desired a house that was sympathetic to its location. All rooms capture that commanding view, the open plan living area in particular, which has windows that reach from floor to soaring ceilings. All you have to do is nestle inside and soak up the atmosphere.
For a real treat, venture out and soak in the hot tub just on dusk, as the clouds change a multitude of colours, with the sun setting beyond. Then watch the stars begin to pop out one by one like diamonds in the velvet sky. This will be an experience you will not quickly forget.
The property sprawls 40 acres ensuring your complete privacy. Lush green paddocks surround the house. The outdoors beckon for your exploration. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and go for a walk through temperate rainforest brimming with fascinating rock scapes, mossy waterfalls, and natural tree ferneries. An abundance of Tasmanian native wildlife is right at your back door.
Winter can transform the property into a frosty wonderland with snow blanketing the clearing while, indoors, the wood heater and heat pump are ample to keep you cosy.
If you're after some added adventure, and you would like to visit key Tasmanian tourist destinations, we can organise direct charter by helicopter from, or to our property. This can range from wine tours, transport to Cradle Mountain, Freycinet Saffire Resort, a golf trip to Barnbougle or just about anywhere in Tasmania that you can imagine.
Liffey Mountain Retreat is a short 30 minute drive from Launceston or Deloraine; 30 minutes to an experience of unparalleled beauty and relaxation in nature’s cradle.

Liffey Mountain Retreat is situated at the end of a 1.2km ascending gravel driveway. Under normal conditions a standard vehicle is fine, but occasionally in the colder month, this road can become frosty/snow covered. We ask that you take this into consideration when deciding what kind of vehicle you drive to the retreat. We will, of course, maintain the road throughout the year but we take no responsibility if your choice of wheels results in you being unable to reach your idyllic, mountainside retreat.
