Description

This beautifully restored c1912 Federation semi-detached cottage is located in a quiet street in eclectic North Hobart, just minutes from the North Hobart restaurant precinct and an easy 15-20 minutes walk to the city and waterfront.

The central location makes this a perfect base for a family holiday or cultural retreat, with easy access on foot, bike or bus to the best attractions in Hobart.

Enjoy a drink or dinner in one of the many cafes, restaurants or bars in the local precinct, or head down to the waterfront and Salamanca and soak up the harbour side atmosphere.

MONA can be easily accessed by a dedicated bus or ferry from the waterfront, Metro Bus which stops on the North Hobart Strip, or is a 20-30 min cycle along the Intercity Cycleway.

A fresh neutral colour scheme compliments the Tasmanian Oak floorboards, ornate corner fire-places, high ceilings and picture rails and gives this heritage cottage a classic, light and airy feel. The living and dining space with its colourful textiles is a lovely space to unwind after a day out exploring the town. A 32" LED TV, BlueRay device and radio/Ipod speaker are provided for your entertainment - or try the local State Cinema for an independant film.

The 3 large bedrooms provide versatile accommodation for couples, families or groups of friends. The light-filled master bedroom has a Queen-sized bed, the second is a Double and the third bedroom is a Twin Single. The Tas Oak beds are locally crafted, as are the high quality mattresses. All beds have electric blankets and portable panel heaters are available for extra comfort.

The fully equipped galley kitchen is set up for self-catering and is a lovely sunny spot to enjoy a quick breakfast before heading out for the day. We provide tea, coffee, milk and a few other pantry staples and surprises.

The renovated bathroom contains a vanity, toilet, deep enamel bath with shower over, and toasty instant fan heater. Please note that the shower over bath may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues.

Separate laundry has a front loader washing machine and washing powder provided. Large sunny clothes line for drying washing.

A small rear courtyard with deck gets all day sun and provides a private space to enjoy a drink or BBQ and a secure area for children to play. Our grassy local playground Soundy Park is just a few minutes walk away.

An original outhouse / woodshed provides perfect undercover storage for adventure equipment such as bikes and the gate can be padlocked for security.

Heating is provided by an efficient Inverter Heat Pump reverse cycle air conditioner, bedroom panel heaters and a bathroom instant fan heater. We don't really require cooling in summer, but should you feel the heat, the reverse cycle airconditioner can be used, and there are portable fans available.

We provide everything you need for a short or long stay including all linen, soap, shampoo, a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities.

Please note:

No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property. This is strictly enforced to ensure the amenity of subsquent guests and the health and safety of close neighbours.

We are unable to accommodate pets in our property.

We are a legitimate registered Visitor Accommodation premises which has been certified to comply with all building, local authority and fire safety regulations

Getting around

To and from Airport by Shuttle Bus:

The Airporter Bus travels through North Hobart and will drop you off and pick you up very close to our cottage. Catch the Airporter Bus to airport from the designated pick up spot in nearby Argyle Street.

By car: we are situated very close to Brooker Highway Highway 1 which provides access to the north of the state and all the major arterial routes into and out of Hobart including the A3 to Airport, East Coast and Tasman Peninsula via A9 and the A6 to Channel district and Huonville.

On foot:

5 minute walk to North Hobart cafe strip

10-15 minute walk to CBD via Campbell or Argyle or Elizabeth St

15-20 minute walk to wharf via Campbell Street

By Metro Bus:

To city:

Bus 20 from nearby Letitia St runs hourly weekdays.

Bus 15/16 from Argyle St runs approx hourly.

A short walk to Elizabeth St will give you access to a city-bound bus every 10min at a yellow Turn Up And Go bus-stop.

About us

Your hosts, J & P have lived in an identical semi-detached cottage next door for 15 years. We purchased its twin in 2013, in a sadly delapidated state and have put much love and energy into meticulously restoring it to what you see today. We hope that you enjoy the fruits of our labours - Jack's Cottage.

We are Hobart locals, outdoor enthusiasts, mountain bikers, paddlers, passionate about the natural environment and our beautiful island home. We would be very happy to share our intimate knowledge of Hobart to help you have a great holidayl

We strive to minimise our impact on the environment wherever possible.

We provide fresh linen and towels which are laundered without the use of bleach or harsh chemical agents, dried by the sun and air, weather permitting or in our highly efficient heat pump dryer and are not ironed.

Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash are provided for use by guests in large bottles to minimise waste.

We provide forest friendly FSC certified, non chlorine bleached 100 recycled toilet paper.

Heating is provided by an efficient Inverter Heat Pump.

Insulation is installed throughout the cottage to assist temperature regulation

Gardens are maintained by tank water.

A water saving front loading washing machine and clothes line are provided.

Water saving taps are fitted.

Worked perfectly for us travelling as a family as 3 bedroom units are hard to come by and with little ones you just need a bit extra space. So well appointed with everything you could need in a home away from home. The house itself is beautifully presented has spacious rooms, is nice and quiet and so handy to the hub of North Hobart. Highly recommend !

We stayed there at the end of a 10-day trip with a 5 and 3-year old when we were already a bit travel weary and missing home. What a lovely house it was, stylish but super kid-friendly with loads of thoughtful touches like a box of books and toys that kept the kids occupied for hours. We ran into a bit of trouble with the oven and Jane and her family were so kind in giving us assistance. The location of the property is tops too, with lots of eateries nearby and close to all the local attractions.
