Description

Having just had a complete, "to the bones" renovation, “The Den" will suit anyone who is looking for affordable luxury in a fantastic location, close to everything. There is 24-hour immediate access to the apartment at all times.

For longer stays, we change the towels every 3 days and sheets every week. Sheets are sun-dried whenever possible for the luxurious smell and feel. There is a 15 percent discount for stays of 6 days or more, 20 percent for 10 or more, 25 percent for 21 or more and 35 percent for a month or more.

Quality electric blankets and 5 star hotel quality mattresses and linen, along with thermostatically controlled and programmed heating, will ensure you sleep beautifully and wake to a warm, luxurious and immaculately clean 2 bedroom apartment, whatever the weather. The knockout bathroom features a theatrical quality make-up mirror, sensor-activated exhaust, automatic night light, "instant-on" unlimited hot water with thermostat, and walk-in shower. Hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and hand wash are all supplied. 100 MB per second fibre-optic internet connection with excellent Wi-Fi and unlimited downloads, will ensure you stay connected and entertained with Netflix streaming in full HD to our top-of-the-range 40 inch Samsung LED TV. A dedicated undercover garage for a single car is included. The designer kitchen includes a SMEG oven, ceramic stove top, microwave and range-hood and is fully equipped with all utensils, pots, pans, glasses , crockery, cutlery, rice cooker, kettle, toaster, blender, as well as oil, salt, pepper, coffee ground and instant, plunger, tea, milk, baking paper, wipes, paper towels and cling wrap. There will be a bottle of wine and a treat to welcome you.

The apartment is perfect for a couple looking for a romantic holiday away, with coloured mood lighting in the lounge and main bedroom, 1000 and 1500 thread-count sheets, and "Microcloud" doonah and pillows - see the ProductReview site for how good these are. The Den can also accommodate three others in the double-plus-one bunk bed in the second bedroom, so you can bring the kids or share with another couple. A portable cot is available for very young children.

Business persons looking to reward themselves will also be making a savvy choice, with a desk for your laptop, or optionally, we can connect your laptop directly to the TV with a wireless keyboard and mouse you can operate from the Italian leather lounge.

“The Den" features the luxurious look of great rugs, quality furniture, figured and coloured glass highlights, Huon Pine and Tasmanian Oak features. In a small complex of nine units, the apartment is on the first floor - that is, the second floor, if you are American. It is at the back of the complex, so is easy to access but quite secluded in outlook and feel. “Leafy" is definitely the word for it.

Guest Interactions

I live about ten minutes away from the apartment so will generally be available for help and/or advice - and happy to give it. If you like, I would be pleased to share my love of the area and offer some useful tips about what you might like to do and see, restaurants, local services, wineries, and some of the great walks and activities nearby.

For instance, did you know you can hire bicycles for very reasonable cost near Salamanca, and you can ride them directly out to MONA? 90 of the way is via a dedicated bike track that takes you through the quaint “village” of converted boat sheds at Cornelian Bay.

Languages: My wife is Malaysian Chinese and speaks Hokkien and a little Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysian. I have a smattering of French, and Android translation apps on my phone and tablet :-

The Neighbourhood and transport

The back of the apartment is actually on the Battery Point boundary, abutting Albuera Street Primary school, so expect a bit of occasional daytime noise from the kids at play times on weekdays during school terms all that laughing and running around, but very reduced noise on weekends, nights and holidays compared to other holiday apartments surrounded on all sides by residents, roads and/or and garages.

There is a bus stop right in front of the building and over the road.

Close to all public transport multiple Metro bus services.

Byron St is the continuation of Molle St that goes through the top of the CBD, and the apartment is 200 metres from Sandy Bay Road. It is central to all that Sandy Bay, Battery Point, Hobart City and much of what South and West Hobart have to offer:

• Sandy Bay restaurants, shopping precinct and supermarkets are a short 5 minutes’ walk away.

• Historic Battery Point is next door and 10 minutes’ walk takes you to Salamanca and the Sullivan’s Cove waterfront precinct, where you'll find Salamanca Market Saturdays and an array of local retailers including arts & crafts, produce, cafes and restaurants.

• Another few minutes’ walk takes you to Brooke Street Pier and the MONA ferry terminal.

• 5 minutes in the other direction takes you to the beginning of the beautiful South Hobart rivulet walk to the Cascade brewery and gardens.

• 10 minutes’ walk to the Village Cinema.

• 5 minutes’ walk to Sandy bay beach, and another 2 to the playground and Yacht club.

• 5 minutes’ walk to a very good laundry and dry-cleaning service – and then 5 more to another one

• Multiple doctors are nearby and the hospital is about 20 minutes’ walk or a short drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Position We arrived for the Wooden Boat Festival and expected to be walking for miles to get to anything but we were very excited to find we were so close to everything at the harbor. Salamanca Markets, ferry to Mona (great day trip and a bit controversial but great dinner time conversation), restaurants, shops and of course the festival. With two big supermarkets just a few minutes walk from us and another host of local eating places, we had everything at our fingertips. It may not be the oldest place to stay in Hobart but it is the nicest we have been in (we have been a few times). Rob is the nicest host we have ever had and The Den the cleanest accommodation ever. We will be recommending The Den to anyone about to stay in Hobart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Luxury and location! Having never been to Hobart we three sisters were looking forward to relaxation, walking and seeing MONA. The Den was just the place to do this from. It felt like being in the treetops with such a leafy outlook back and front and sitting on the balcony at night. Total privacy, beautiful bedding, excellent cooking and kitchen facilities and Netflix at night with a wine. The Den was in an absolutely fantastic location. We didn't have a car and didn't need one. Within a five minute walk there were so many restaurants and pubs to choose from, shops and supermarkets. Salamanca market, the ferry to MONA, historic Narranya House etc all an easy walk. Coming back to the Den at night was perfect as it was so comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equiped with all we needed. We would thoroughly recommend the Den if you are thinking of Hobart, it is affordable luxury and perfectly located.

We were able to walk to restaurants in both Battery Point and Salamanca. Our hosts were very helpful and recommend some attractions which we were able to visit during our short stay. I would definitely recommend this property.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent apartment & location We found this place on Stayz and booked it quite a few months in advance of our trip to Tassie. This being our third trip down, we wanted to spend time in Hobart to experience the multiple gems and spectacular things it has on offer. Having a good base we believed would help us do that! We could not have wished for a better spot than The Den! Robert has done an outstanding job on this apartment which may appear like not much from the outside. It has everything you need and more. Rob has thought ahead for you and supplied you with it all. We arrived to sparking wine, Brie and strawberries! The fabulous view, outstanding and thorough recommendations list for all over the area down to the heating options, luxurious linen and towels as well as Netflix added to us having a great base to return to every evening after flattening that lower part of Tassie. The location is ideal, allowing for beautiful runs or walks to explore, easy access to cracker restaurants in any direction and quick escapes to the main roadways out! Highly recommend this spot and we will definitely be back;)
