Pioneer Cottage is situated only 30 minutes from Hobart and is a two minute walk from the heart of New Norfolk where you will find bakeries, supermarkets, a butchers, cafes and restuarants as well as three historic pubs and Tasmania's oldest Anglican Church, St. Matthews. New Norfolk is also a mecca for antique collectors with more than eight excellent antique shops scattered around the town.
Only a short walk from the house you can stroll through the beautiful parks along the Esplanade, right beside the Derwent River. There are numerous walks or bike rides you can beside the river and they truly all are beautiful.
This three bedroom cottage was originally built in 1946 and has been lovingly restored in the style of that era. The rooms are light and airy and the furnishings are cosy and comfortable and naturally, include heating and air conditioning.
There are three beautifully appointed bedrooms, two with queen beds and the third with two single beds and for your comfort all the beds are fitted with electric blankets.
The bathroom has everything you need including a shower separate to the lovely deep bath tub - excellent for a long soak after a days hiking.
There is a fully equipped country kitchen with stove, fridge, toaster, electric kettle, microwave and an espresso/cappuccino machine. There is also a washing machine and dryer in the garage.
You can relax in front of your favourite movie in the lounge room, fully equipped with a large TV and DVD player or escape to the living room while the kids watch a noisy movie and listen to something more soothing on the CD player or read a book.
If you'd rather be outdoors, there's a great deck with fabulous views of the Black Mountains and the river just off the living room complete with gas BBQ.
Downstairs is the very cosy "Boat Shed", our gazebo, where you can chill out with a delightful local wine and take in the view.
The large established gardens are fully fenced and there is a vegetable garden and fruit trees - we encourage our guests to eat and enjoy - bon appetit
The house has a lockup garage with remote and internal access. In the garage are two childrens bicycles and safety gear, as well as a wooden cot, porta cot, high chair and a stroller.
If sightseeing is on your agenda, New Norfolk is the gateway to the Derwent Valley with Mt Field National Park and its lovely bush walks and waterfalls only forty mintues away.
Historic Richmond with the oldest bridge in Australia and the old Richmond Gaol as well as a famous traditional sweet shop is just a thirty five minute drive.
Port Arthur is an hour and a half away and you can get to Huonville and Dover in less than two hours.
The Tasmanian wine trail begins only ten minutes down the road with one of the many excellent vineyards and wine makers scattered throughout the region.
Your stay in New Norfolk will leave you feeling relaxed and as if you had stepped back in time. People are friendly and always willing to give their time with a smile.
