When we arrived at the property we were very impressed with the garden setting, decor of the home and it's cleanliness. It was obvious that the owners had a flare for creating a holiday retreat with everything you would want for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Thank you Cathy. Rosemary, November 17
Painted Dog Portarlington is a bright and light, lovingly restored 60s beachouse perfect in any season. 15 mins walk to beautiful Steeles Rock Beach, shops, restaurants and bars, it's in the quiet end of town, where only magpies warbling will wake you. The furnishings are either brand new beds, couches, appliances or retro bar, dining table. It has all the convenience and comfort for a relaxing short get away or longer holiday.
Painted Dog may remind some of their own childhood beach holidays - a simpler time of beach cricket and long lazy days, fish and chips or BBQs - all making for perfect and memorable family holidays.
Explore the wonderful Bellarine, or stay in by the wood heater.
Painted Dog Portarlington has been carefully designed for maximum comfort and relaxation. It has a home away from home feel is in a lovely location and has great amenity. We want you to have a gorgeous time away in our lovely home. A large and covered deck means it is great in all seasons. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the house although not on the furniture please, but note there are no fences so will not suit all pooches.
Portarlington on the Bellarine, is a lovely seaside town with the perfect mix of peace, quiet and nature, as well as cafes, restaurants and wineries.
Cafes and coffee
Postscript is our favourite for excellent coffee, breakfast and lunch, but the bakery also does great coffee, and wood fired baked goods.
Spoiled for choice
The Grand Hotel in Port has a great bistro or bar menu.
The Pizzeria Praja, has woodfired pizzas and a traditional Italian meal - steak nights on Thursday with regular seasonal specials.
Saints and Sailors has live music most nights and book ahead on a Friday and Saturday and holidays.
The Little Mussel Café is great for eat in and to stock up on Mussels which you can also get at the end of the pier most days.
The Kebab shop, Indian and Chinese are all great and delivery is a good option for staying in by the fire. And of course there are several Fish and Chip shops for beach eating or back at the house on the deck.
Within 10k there are many fine wineries. All have cellar door tastings and sales, and some also have restaurants, notably Jack Rabbit which has both a restaurant and a café with world class views of Port Phillip Bay. Check the Bellarine Taste Trail for the full list
A 90 minute easy drive from Melbourne, or catch the new ferry from Docklands, which comes right to Portarlington Dock three times per day, and takes 90 minutes.
Cycling and Walking.
The foreshore trail to St Leonards via Indented Head is 15k, mostly flat and follows the beach with stunning views across Port Philip Bay. Beautiful
Walking to and along the beach is gorgeous at any time of year.
Right from the beach at the end of the Fairfax St there is wonderful snorkelling. Head from there towards Indented Head where there are old wrecks right off the shore.
Right off the beach, from the pier or from a boat catching a fish is a wonderful pastime in Portarlington.
